It was new stock day at the shop, and all the really interesting stuff had come in today. Interesting, as in, snorkeling and spear fishing gear on the supply side, tropical fish on the tank side. Which meant that Jon was stocking shelves and getting salt water tanks replenished.

And occasionally he took breaks to go across the road and check the lines he had in the water.

The Gig, Monday

Angelica had handwavily talked to Dani about getting her hold job back, and come Monday she was excited about working with the horses again. While she'd grown more comfortable being around them during her previous time in Fandom, now her fears of accidentally harming the horses were gone.

So the first thing she was going to do was take each of the horses out for a run and tell them how much she'd missed them. And then she was going to try to figure out why there were so many watering cans in the stable.

Every year, on this day, Ender's mailbox would fill up five times as fast as per usual. He had started to avoid opening his email at all-- and this year's would be no different, especially not considering what else he had on his mind.

"You still have messages pending," Jane reminded him again, as he sank down behind his laptop.

"Don't we have a printer sitting out back?" he reasoned. "Maybe it's time for me to put some actual work in, instead of chatting all the time."

"You're going to have to answer them at some point."

"I have to do nothing of the sort," he said, and shut his laptop, and promptly vanished into the back to work on that printer.

Jack cautiously let himself into the back office of the Devil's Nest for his first day at work; he'd never seen the place this quiet, so quiet the hum of the air conditioner seemed very loud.

He took a moment to savor it before diving into the pile of paperwork Eric had left for him. It was neatly organized, if a bit out of date; it shouldn't take too terribly long to get everything back into shape.

Jack looked forward to the challenge.

Vincent had the cafe decked to the nines today in honor of Memorial Day, with red white and blue banners and ribbons. He even had a giant grill set up out front, where he was cooking up some chicken (organic and free range, guaranteed un-cloned, thank you very much), bison- and veggie burgers, and a whole mess of corn on the cob.

Today's special:
Chicken breast and burgers grilled to order
20% off for military members of any national or dimensional origin

Luke's was open.

Electroclash still didn't really get what this Memorial Day thing was all about. She was just glad it hadn't entirely shut down the United Capes of America branch on the mainland, since she'd picked today as the time to drag her ass down there. Of course, there'd only been one decidedly surly clerk there to deal with her, but she was good at situations like that.

Or at crushing people's spirits. One or the other.

Anyway, it hadn't been what you'd call a success. Despite what Electroclash's contacts at the SPA had claimed, the UCA didn't seem too keen on fixing up a guest speaker for her class. Not an active American one, at least. Nope, they were rather wanting to suggest she'd get in touch with a former member of theirs, an English one, heat-based powers, maybe she'd heard of him... ?

The Hotness. Yeah.

And speaking of heat-based nuisances, the warmth of the day was finally making Electroclash glad about how much skin her uniform left exposed. It was a bit different from the weather she was used to wearing it in. Still, the stress combined with the weather she wasn't really used to made a stop by the Perk when she got back on the island absolutely necessary. She could take a moment at a table by the window, nursing an iced coffee. While trying, repeatedly, to call Alex. Who wasn't picking up. Maybe he'd melted his phone by accident again.

And that was who the UCA wanted to be a guest speaker for impressionable young minds, ladies and gentlemen.

[Open place in town is open, naturally.]
