If Éponine was in any way bothered by her apparent temporary regression to childhood over the weekend, she was very much determined not to let on. (She was, because she couldn't pass on an opportunity to beat herself up, and on top of that it was more than a little bit unsettling to relive that period of her life, but put together pieces she hadn't understood at that age.) Granted, since this resulted in her going about her delivery runs and more mundane duties with an extra touch of manic energy and singing to herself a bit more loudly than usual, she might not have picked the most effective technique.

There were some new displays to put up inside the post office: information about holiday hours, a few posters and ads about how the postal service could help you make sure your presents got delivered on time, things to that effect. Just unpacking them so she could put them up made Éponine wince; she didn't even have to be familiar with the holiday shopping season to be dubious. She did, however, occasionally pause to look at the displays; she'd seem to get distracted and a little bit somber, then slip her hand into her pocket to pull out the five-franc coin she always kept there and fidget with it for a minute or two. She'd been eight years old the year Cosette went away, and that had been on Christmas -- what a lovely combination of reminders.

Kitty was going to blame the weekend for why she totally spaced on it being Tuesday. Never mind that she got to work yesterday just fine, she was still going to cling to that reasoning.

So when she showed up just late enough for Tino to glare at her, she pointedly ignored him and got started setting things up. Oops.

Mike was NOT going to talk about, or even think about, what had happened this weekend. His childhood had been awful the first time around. It had done wonders for all of his injuries, however, so there was that at least.

He walked over to dairy aisle carrying an apron and push broom, and looked down sternly at the panda sulking on the floor. "Are we done here?"

The panda whuffled, and then grudgingly stood up and put on the apron.

Mike nodded at it. "Good. Now, I don't want to hear any more about it. Help Apu clean up this mess -- it stinks in here."

A half hour later, the shelves were righted and the spoiled food was all thrown away. Mike pulled a stalk of bamboo from where he'd hidden it in the floral case and offered it to his new employee. "Keep up the good work."

Another weekend of people turning into little kids had come and gone, and Evan still hadn't had the joy of knowing what it was like to be a little kid in the real world. He didn't seem to mind too much. He'd met a couple of his friends as really adorable children, and really, it wasn't like he was in some kind of hurry to re-live a perfect childhood that he wasn't going to ever be able to go back to.

... Much.

Either way, today he was back to work, going through the children's section and picking out a few of the titles that he'd enjoyed the most while working at the library on Sunday. They were going straight onto the 'Staff Picks' wall, with a little sign under them saying that they'd be excellent to have around if people here turned into kids again, or if they just happened to have little children show up. A purchase that was good for multiple occasions!

Really, it was a wonder more people on the island didn't have as many books as Evan did.
