Several days of being cranky because of Jono had left her… still cranky, but somewhat mellower, and Rosalind was glad to be opening the store today because it gave her something official to do.

Observing the number of people who were feverishly buying cookbooks, which was something to do with the holiday coming up, she surmised, Rosalind was glad that it wasn't her holiday. Besides, the discussions were amusing, especially when people disagreed about what was 'right' for Thanksgiving dinner.

The shop was open and there was a sign outside that said:

Now hiring! Apply inside!

Around mid-morning Rosalind had to break up a too-spirited argument about what kind of cranberry sauce was superior because it was disturbing other customers. That amused her too.

Trooper Station, Thursday

"You want me to grab some troopers and come over to save you because someone put rocks in a circle," Tamsin said flatly.

"Oh, I'll be right over," she continued.

"Yes, that's sarcasm. Congratulations! Your mother must be really proud of you," she added, rolling her eyes.

"Seriously, don't you have some bar fly to fill up with booze?" she finished, "Maybe hijack a rickshaw, drive around town, vandalize something? Because that might actually make my day interesting."

She threw down the phone. "Ugh."

Today Sam could be found behind the counter of the Portalocity office, squinting at an email in bemusement.

"'We will now be offering a new premium service to gold and platinum-level (or universal fine metal equivalent),'" she read aloud, "'reducing travel time within trips. No more walking to Starbucks! Customers need only tell us when to schedule their intra-trip portals to the tourist destinations that they would like to visit, and learning other cities' and planets' metro systems will be a thing of the past. 72 hours' advance notice required.'"

Then there was a breakdown of the pricing.

"Riiiight," Sam said.

It wasn't Kitty's usual night at the bar, but since they didn't have any regular bartender tonight, she could always use the extra tips. Plus she figured if everywhere else was getting their holiday decorations up, she could at least start stringing the lights.

So she was doing that and helping customers, because Tino had decided to try this NaNo thing yesterday and was determined to win in the next week. Yeeeah.

Bruce had been slacking off with his training. With as much time and effort as he put into everything else, it had been months since he even visited an arcade to test his skills.

That was going to change tonight. It was time for him to hang up his Billionaire Playboy Hat and put on his Dance Dance Revolution Champion Headband. Sadly, both of those pieces of headwear were figurative. But hey, it still wasn't every day that a guy in a well-tailored black suit went to town on an arcade dance machine, right? That had to count for something. Well, not in the high scores it didn't. Bruce was going to have to get that the old fashioned way: By being awesome at dancing.
