"Lābas vākaras," Hannibal told them all when they arrived. "This evening's vocabulary centers around music, since that was another interest expressed." He nodded at Jono assuming he's here.

They were getting more common now, those brief glimpses of people and overheard fragments of conversations, weren't they? Éponine didn't mind, exactly; more often than not she thought they were entertaining, or at least a momentary intriguing distraction, even if it was strange having things like this happen when she was lucid and not mostly delirious from hunger.

This morning, she'd barely arrived at the post office and in fact hadn't even gotten around to unlocking the front door when she was privy to the sudden appearance of two NPC patrons in the post office lobby, arguing loudly about which of them deserved the last book of stamps more. The argument escalated into a fistfight while Éponine stood with one hand on the key that was half-turned in the front door lock, but just when the fight really started getting interesting, the entire scene faded out of existence.

"You're both very stupid," Éponine informed the now-empty lobby in a loud voice, "but I'd at least have liked to see who won."

Oh well. She finished unlocking the door and flipped the sign to OPEN, then adjusted the NOW HIRING sign in the front window that has totally always been there, I just forget to mention it.

"I walked into Caritas, which had become a habit on Monday nights, and walked straight up to the bar."

That was what Kitty heard right as she started her shift tonight. The first thing she'd thought to do was say it wasn't Monday, but when she saw no one was there, Tino just gave her a "see?" look, because now she got to hear weird voices too.

Then through the rest of the night the zombie band was getting confused by snippets of past songs that people had sung, and Kitty decided that whatever was doing this deserved a slap upside the head for being annoying.

Assuming it had a head.

Was it too early to start spring cleaning? Was it ever too early? Not for Mary, who had dressed down and was giving the lobby a good scrubbing from top to bottom. The front desk had been completely cleared of items and wiped down. The desk phone had been wiped down with disinfecting wipes. The remains of the towel animal zoo in the corner were sitting in a laundry basket, waiting for a trip to the washer. With any luck, by the time Mary was done, spring would be much closer.

Whoever that weird quiet girl had been the week before, she wasn't in the diner today. Bay was surprised, but she didn't waste too much mental energy on it. She was trying to finish her portrait of Tank in between diner work. Even with Facebook photos to go by, it was hard. She felt like she was missing something.

Bay gnawed on her thumbnail, adjusted her ponytail, and started on another draft.

Welcome to Luke's!

Evan was burying his face in a book today at the Book Haven, and he wasn't coming out for anything. Not for restocking the shelves. Not for anything.

Normally, he'd be in the best place in town in order to deal with emotional traumas, but today his first few steps into the bookstore had been accompanied, out of nowhere, with the face of someone he'd lost almost a year ago, standing on the other side of the room with a baseball glove on his hand.

"So, this En Sabah Nur, he was the first mutant on Earth," Cluster caught the ball that was thrown toward him from... Evan couldn't imagine where, but it seemed to be coming from himself. "As such, he was selected by the Celestials to become Apocalypse, charged with ensuring the success of humanity's new mutations. Ensuring they would flourish, and become the dominant species."

Cluster threw the ball again, and the vision vanished. But for the rest of his shift, whenever Evan dared to look up, he could hear the rest of the conversation, in fits and starts.

Only the monster was still just a boy.

Evan had never been so absorbed in a book about vegan recipes in his life.
