Stiles hadn't been to work in...awhile. But he liked to think he had a good excuse although possession wasn't exactly something you could get put on a doctors note. So he just showed up and hoped nobody asked about it.

It was kind of nice to have a distraction. Sitting in the house the last few days really hadn't improved his mood.

Today, Elphaba was more than a little distracted from actual work. You see, she'd picked up one of those new-fangled tik-tok machines that most people would call a tablet computer. It was shaped like a pear, which she had rather liked. And while she had avoided the normal trap of just using it as a device to crush candies or check her MyFace page (she didn't have one of those, and she wasn't going to, thank you very much), she had started to investigate what would happen if she searched for certain things from Oz on the internet.

When she looked up 'fighting trees', she was not expecting the videos she found, for instance.

She'd help a customer if one arrived. Otherwise she was mainly completely wasting her time on the store's dime. Oops.

Luke's, Friday

So, on the one hand, Luke's was entirely free of any bugs or singing about what day it is!

On the other, there was a weirdly high percentage of moody country music.

"Where the hell did you find that?!" Eliot demanded. The cook, slowly turning purple, attempted to get his feet back on the floor and flailed his smart phone in Eliot's face. Eliot glared at the phone, grabbed it, then dropped the cook. "I'm pretty sure I told Hardison to get rid of this."

"Aww," said the dishwasher. "You think things can be deleted from the internet. That's adorable."

That would be around when the busboy found a particular Japanese sports drink commercial, and Eliot started to ponder whether or not he could actually kill the internet.

Today's specials
Fried eel
Corn salsa and chips
Coconut lime butter cookies

Luke's was open.

Eleanor was absolutely not nervous as the entered the animal shelter. There was no reason to be nervous. She was just accompanying Evan -- and his puppy and his tiny dinosaur -- while he bought some pet food. There was nothing significant or momentous about today in the slightest, because she herself was just going to go into the animal shelter, not actually pick out a pet for herself. Besides, it was ludicrous to just pick up another living creature and swear to love and protect it for the rest of its natural life. People didn't actually do that, did they?

Do not mind the fidgeting, Evan (or Ozzy or Old Lace).

At least the food section wasn't too intimidating, although you could easily overhear the barks and mews from the back.

"I thought cats ate mice," she said, idly, because saying something was preferable to not saying anything at all.

(Expecting [livejournal.com profile] genesishero, who was modded with permission. It's an open animal shelter, so anybody else is welcome to pop in as well!)

The singing at the dorms was atrocious. And really not something anyone needed when they were planning a rescue operation of sorts with the time ticking away. So, Isabelle had shuffled Flick and his ever-present laptop (ever-present in the last week anyway) into town for breakfast, and had then taken her leave for a breath of fresh air and a lack of singing.

Her aimless walking had taken her to the beach, where she was standing now, looking out towards the horizon. Her heels were off, neatly set down next to her, and her toes were digging into the sand. Just one more way to feel grounded, especially since she hadn't managed more than about fifteen minutes in the gym this morning. She knew there wasn't much in Flick's world that could scare her, and that her little guard mission would go just fine even if any thugs showed up. That didn't mean she wasn't a little on edge because of it.

A moment, and she gathered up some of the skirt of her dress so she could walk into the water without getting it wet. She wasn't very good at just standing still for any extended periods of time.

Jack never bothered to go to work when he wasn't himself -- but when he took Allie on an evening walk Friday night, it was clear she didn't feel the same. The little black puppy trotted toward the club as if on a mission.

"So," Jack told Allie as they settled in behind the bar, "we're here. What was so important?"

Being a puppy, she didn't answer. Instead she wandered off to yip at shadows.

Mike was leaning against the counter and doing a crossword puzzle today. In peace and quiet, of course, because he wasn't anywhere near the dorms. He'd listened to radio, though, which explained the sign in the window.

Well, not the "now hiring" part -- the bugs in the dorms didn't have anything to do with that. Which you already knew.

Why was Mike wearing a very ladylike wig when he showed up to work tonight? Tino didn't want to know. The zombie band didn't care. The grunts were probably not about 'why are you wearing a wig?', as they just gestured at the card table with the CDs on it.

There wasn't any good reason for the wig, anyway. Life? Life was an okay reason. Being a little buzzed – just a little, okay, he wasn't going to be dropping bottles or anything, he'd just come straight from the mainland where he'd had a nice time with some new friends – was an okay reason too. So, yeah. Your bartender had some nice long fake but luscious locks tonight. Deal with it.

At least it wasn't singing bugs.
