There were some days that Jono wondered why he bothered. Those days were generally spent sulking in his room, playing his guitar, spending quality time with his cat and avoiding people until the 'why?' went away and a somewhat unenthusiastic, 'sure?' stepped up to take its place. This particular 'why?' day just happened to fall on the same day he was supposed to be on the island, preparing paycheques for his employees and going over a new shipment.

The pay, at least, was relatively quick and painless.

But the more boxes he opened just to see faces like Bieber and Annoying Orange staring up at him, the more he wanted to just take the whole shipment out to the Causeway and throw it in the ocean. He even went so far as to do the math to see how much of a loss the shop would be eating if he did.

Too much.

So, once the boxes were unpacked, Jono spent the rest of his shift at the front counter, playing his guitar and pointedly ignoring the row of CDs that were displayed backwards on the shelf.

Nick was in a pretty good mood today. All heroing done last night in Baltimore had gone well, and today after the hits of energy he'd taken from muggers and drug dealers wore off, he still didn't feel particularly like he needed a sling for his arm. He had it tucked under the desk while he worked today, just in case, and he still wasn't quite able to get his full range of mobility out of it, but it felt good to be able to use it for things.

So, yeah. Mental note: Don't let some guy shit-kick your arm right out of the socket while out heroing in Balitmore. Good to remember from here on out.

Welcome to the Arms Hotel!
Today's Specials:
Lamb Tagine
Caprese Salad Skewers
Peach Crisp

Now if only his shift wasn't mostly spent fielding a phone call about the going room rates for a person from a reality that used live mice as currency, today would be perfect.

Ever go in to work just because you were bored?

Shut up, normal people do too do that.

Anyway, Kitty was behind the bar tonight, trying to keep herself entertained by watching the zombies rehearse. You'd think they would be doing more than practicing considering this was their job, but eh.

Kaidan'd been getting messages from Anderson for a while. The guy really wanted him running this new program and wasn't letting up about it - made Kaidan feel guilty for hanging around here, even if the program hadn't started yet. But today's? Today's message was different.

He read it at the office - of course - his frown deepening with every new line. Batarians. Possible Reaper invasion. Shepard. Blowing up a relay, destroying the colony...

"This is crazy," he muttered. "This is just-- really crazy."

The paperwork didn't answer him.

He dropped the datapad and sank back into his seat. There was just no getting out of this, was there? His life was pushing him inexorably into one particular direction, and he honestly wasn't sure why he was still waffling about it.

The Alliance needed him.

It was alarmingly difficult to find time to talk to one's dearest friends, sometimes, between work schedules and class schedules and social obligations and people turning into and back from animals. Celia had flagged Eleanor down in Doctoring this week, discreetly flinging notes back and forth during the course of the movie (which she wasn't following much, anyway), and that was how Saturday found them comfortably watching the clouds on the beach.

Celia, clearly, needed to talk about something, but she wasn't sure how to bring it up -- and at the moment, she was happy enough to watch the sky. They wouldn't have many more summer evenings to watch clouds fade into sunset, after all.

"That one looks like a bumblebee," she offered lazily, pointing.

[mostly here for one but open beach is open!]
