Well, Sparkle was in to work extra early today, because apparently the squirrels hated him, and because he couldn't get back to sleep after reading a whole broadcast, and anyway, he'd had a cat sitting on his face the moment he'd tried. So... here he was, with the biggest cup of coffee the Perk would give him in one hand, going over the racks and pulling all of the best clothing deals toward the front. Mostly this meant the best-quality winter gear he could find for the least money. After a full week on the island, there was bound to be at least a few more students coming to terms with the fact that Maryland was freaking cold in January.

Well, he was Canadian. This neck of the woods was tolerable in January. But, you know, for most people.

Whatever. Anyway, he was putting out another sale sign - 25% Off Winter Clothing - because January, and he was keeping himself busy until the coffee could kick in by arranging the affordable scarves and winter gloves by colour, in a rainbow. Because he could.

The one good thing about this place was that Gansey wasn't hanging over his shoulder, looking disappointed, when Ronan went out to have a good time. Ronan could drink in peace and he could find street races in peace. And while he appreciated the lack of a chaperone, another part missed that disappointment. It made going against Gansey's wishes more fun.

Last night had been...a night. After a week here, Ronan had finally gone to the mainland. He'd found a bar that was too loud, too dirty and too crowded and he'd had enough to drink to make his vision blur and to make the anger that was his constant companion dull a bit. He'd slurred his words and tripped over a pool cue and he'd laughed. It was an all too unfamiliar sound.

Once he'd sobered up, he'd climbed into his BMW and drove around until he'd found a baby faced college student in a Volvo who thought daddy's money could take him far. Ronan had a great time both leaving him in the dust and then taking his money. Sure, he didn't need the money but Mr. Baby Face didn't know that.

Once Sunday morning turned into Sunday afternoon, Ronan finally came back to the island. There were dark sunglasses over his eyes and his leather jacket was pulled tight around him. The sharp, dark lines of his tattoo crawled out from underneath the jacket, inching up his neck. He was walking around his BMW, checking for any damage and buffing out any spots he could see.

Car had survived another run. It'd be so easy to dream something even faster than this but Ronan did really love this car.

Anders had made the mistake of showering in one of Sparkle's rigged stalls that morning, and no amount of follow-up showers seemed to make more than the slightest difference. He was still shedding soggy glitter when he got to work. He'd brought Lachlan with him that day, and he could swear the cat was laughing at his plight.

He spotted a fresh shipment of herbs to unpack and began putting them away, trying not to dribble glitter into the jars as he did.
