Streets of town- Thursday afternoon

Kitty's portal back to Fandom had been delayed a few times due to weather, which she figured meant that she would be coming back to some kind of rain that would require a shower when she got home. She'd been relieved to see it was just snow, because she totally could handle that.

Then she'd tried walking through it, and it was cold and there was too much snow and screw it, she was just going to phase the rest of the way and not deal with it, and then enjoy the warmth at the house.

Or, you know, not.

[Open if anyone's out in this! Mostly I've had this experience minus the phasing and of course I'm gonna take it out on a character.]

Across the Island, Thursday

She had tried to keep it at bay: the weather. For weeks, the island had placated it, and for a time the glitter seemed to have done the trick. But it had been a ruse; on Thursday morning people across the island woke up to whipping winds screaming past their windows, dragging snow with them in their wake.

The island's infrastructure was not meant for this kind of weather. Try as she might, she could not keep the snow from interfering. Shortly after the winds picked up, a light winked out. And then another. And then a third.

On the fourth, a sigh tore through the power systems, silencing them all at once. A generator remained operational here and there, but by and large, the island fell to darkness and cold.

On the fifth, little fireplaces sprung up across homes and dorm rooms and common rooms across the island, a final bid by the island to keep this... blizzard from becoming completely unpleasant.
