not_every_mageThis was the first time in almost a month when Anders had been at work and not completely preoccupied by the stupid phylactery and stupid Gaunt one way or another. He was still halfway waiting for the other shoe to drop and everything to go wrong again, but in the meantime it was nice to see things back to normal -- or what passed for normal, anyhow.
He was dusting a neglected shelf of candles when he found a pastel yellow plastic egg filled with small chocolates shaped like rabbits. It was strange but nice, and Anders didn't think much about it until he opened the till to make change and found a similar egg full of jellybeans tucked inside. A third egg was balanced neatly on the wings of a stone angel; he found a fourth in his jacket pocket when he went to take a break.
By a few hours into his shift, he had a dozen plastic eggs, a stomachache from having eaten the best part of the contents of a dozen plastic eggs, and the distinct feeling the shop wasn't going to let anything get too normal for him.
