York was glued to his phone today. His fantasy teams weren't doing very well. Maybe he should have listened to Delta's advice when it came to football stats and stuff but it felt kind of like cheating. Also York tried to go against whatever Delta said whenever he could on principle.

One of the vagaries of working at a multidimensional post office was having to keep track of dimensions that ran just a little bit behind or ahead this one -- it wasn't that expected delivery dates were an exact science, but it did help to cut down on the yelling a little bit.

To this end, there were a couple of reference manuals and an online database containing this information.

Which Éponine was in no way using to try and figure out which dimensions hadn't had Halloween yet, just to see if she could resell some of the metric tons of leftover candy she still had.

A few pounds of which was still available for the taking in the post office lobby, still in those cheesy plastic cauldrons, because what else was she going to do with the silly things, put them back into the storage room until next year?

The cat seemed to have forgiven Dante this week.

Or maybe it was the bacon. He had snuck a whole shit ton of bacon out of the dorms this go-around.

So now they were sitting companionably on the roof, the cat licking the last bacon grease off of his paw, Dante smoking a cigarette at nothing in particular. Occasionally his eyes drifted to the skyline, or the street, or the water over there, and... they studiously ignored the flicker of something black and human-shaped down below, on the bricks.

There were places and times when Limbo and the real world didn't want to play keep-away quite as bad. Those were the worst-- at least for Dante, who could actually see it, flickers of demons or ghosts or whatever the hell that shit was. He didn't even know what brought it on: his own state of mind? The Earth rotating wherever he was in the wrong direction? (Or maybe it really was just him being c-- nevermind.) No clue. Not that it'd mattered lately. Whatever weirdness Fandom had going on with its Limbo, it had largely shielded him from getting glimpses of what was on the other side.

Until now, anyway. Dante kinda hoped that if he ignored that human shade - hanging against a lamp post, looking like it was in the throes of some illness or whatever - it would go away. This was supposed to be a Limbo-free zone, right?

Well, at least it was just dead people, not demons.

Dante collapsed back against the roof and stared up at the sky instead. It was a nice day. Maybe he should go do something to wipe that poor dead bastard down there off his mind.

Jessica was back at work today and found herself sad to officially shut down the portal completely. She wasn't going to scrap it. She worked hard on it and you never knew when something like that would be helpful someday. But it was going to move to it's new home all the way at the back of the shop to free up space for more immediately useful projects.

Like the one Jessica was working on right now involving a waste paper basket and some crumpled up papers. Hard at work.
