Breq had been looking forward to playing the instruments and listening to new music. She knew she was very lucky to have a job like this, and she had been humming all the way to work.

Sadly, when she arrived, the Silence sat in the middle of the room staring at her and refusing to move. She tried chasing it out with a broom, but it just found another place, a safer one, repeatedly. As the creature stared at her from the top of a shelf, Breq took once step forward and then moved ancillary-fast, taking one step up on a chair and then grabbing it by the scruff of its neck. It screamed in silence and they stared at each other for a moment before Breq tossed it out the back door.

So, the day was saved, she thought. Soon, however, she discovered that this meant war, and she had to spend most of the day catching and throwing out the Silence, which proved to be a very stubborn creature. In between this she was singing, defiantly.

Apu had just began to open his mouth to greet Amaya before she cut him off, sharp as a whip.

"No," she said.

"But, I only--"

"Not. A. Word," she growled, holding up a finger in warning. She didn't know what he was trying to say, all she knew was that there was the slim chance that it might have to do with the weekend, and she wasn't even going to let him traipse anywhere near that edge.

"I'm going to go work on that there Squishy Machine," she said, hitching a thumb at herself, and then at the machine. "I will get the third nozzle to dispense something other than Red, and we're going to have a nice, quiet day where we don't discuss anything personal or even business related unless it's absolutely, one-hundred percent dire. Got it?"

Apu held up his hands in surrender and let Amaya get to her task, a task that proved to be even more frustrating than the events of the weekend and even more futile than just moving past them would likely be.
