Kanan had his lightsaber on him as he stood in the park today, no different from any other time, really.

There was also a light sheen of sweat on his furrowed brow as he stood a few paces away from one of the slugs that had been roaming the town. He'd cut a few down earlier when they'd come after him, but the more they did, the less certain he was that he was doing the right thing. That he even had to fight, even though his instincts had been screaming that he ought to right up front, that these slugs were full of darkness, and something worse still had been the cause of them. It was doing his head in, now, and while he still had his lightsaber close to hand, it was clipped to his belt, unlit, and all he was holding out to the creature was an empty hand.

Make a connection. Maybe these things could be reasoned with.

Maybe they were supposed to be here.

Maybe they were good, and those that they were attacking had it coming to them, after all...

That had to be, right?

That... had to be...?

His head hurt. He laughed, not entirely certain where that laugh had even come from, and reached to stroke the creature gently along the side of its... face.

The trees rustled.

The tremble came, made it a few feet, then passed into the undergrowth. A few rabbits scattered. The birds kept singing.

The long-toothed giant slugs that were spreading quickly across the rest of the island - they didn't touch the preserve. And they certainly didn't touch this glade.

The air shimmered. A portal opened.

And people fell out.

[[ for Team Good! also, the slugs spreading across the island are now hostile. ]]

To say that Liam was distracted today was quite the understatement. There was a definite malevolent energy to the air, and he kept seeing- things. Whether they had happened, or would happen, he couldn't tell, but they were always violent.

So, yeah. Not even the paperwork was getting done today, it seemed.

Jenkins had been up all night. The results of all his usual magical tests were becoming increasingly alarming, as had the number of giant slugs he'd seen sliming by through the shop windows (though, honestly, it didn't take very many giant slugs to be alarming). He'd already discovered in his tenure on Fandom that the resources of his own Library were rather lacking when it came to Fandom — a fact he was slowly but surely correcting, of course — and as such was reliant entirely upon the meager offerings of the Magic Box thus far in his investigations.

It wasn't going well. He would soon be forced to give up here and move on to the island's primary library, up at the school. Not that he had anything against school libraries, but it was rather a point of honor that he be able to find at least the beginnings of a clue without outside assistance. . . .

So Eliot hadn't gotten a whole lot of sleep last night. Or rather . . . any sleep last night. He hadn't found more than a couple big slugs in his patrolling yesterday, but seeing as they were distinctly not holiday-themed, that hadn't helped him relax his guard much. He'd spent his time instead cleaning and checking his weapons, and making sure the safe room in the basement was well-stocked.

Listening to radio had only confirmed his fears that the island was up to its semi-regular tricks again, and he had to remain vigilant. Which meant caffeine, and lots of it.

So here he was, at the Perk, wiping slug-goo off his sword with a handful of napkins and drinking the largest, most caffeinated beverage they could legally sell him.

Quark's, Friday

There was something wrong with Quark.

It wasn't so much that he complained of a headache before he even got the bar open. Quark would complain about anything at any time to anyone who even vaguely looked like they might listen. It wasn't the fact that he was petting and cooing over a very large slug with very disturbing teeth. He was a Ferengi. He was basically a very large slug with disturbing teeth himself.

It was the fact that every time the employees suggested something about the state of the bar, he agreed. Even when it was going to cost him money. Even when it was going to cost him a lot of money.

Welcome to Quarks!
Where everyone drinks for free!

"Looks good," Quark said, barely even glancing up at the sign when the bouncer showed it to him. "What does it matter?" he asked the slug cheerfully. "It's all coming down anyway. Yes it is! Oh yes it is! Who's a good little slimy monster? Who is? Is it you? Oh yes, it's you. . . ."

Quark's was open. Or maybe it was more accurate to say, it was open season on Quark's.
