"Groundhog day was yesterday," Miguel told the cook, "and if there's any traditional food for it, I don't want to know." He was sort of afraid of what it might be.

Unfortunately, the man kept pouting. so eventually Miguel thought of some things. "There you go - okay?"

Apparently it would do.

"Superbowl what-now?"

Amaya had been a little surprised by how busy the store seemed, as well as how ransacked some of the aisles were, particularly the ones with chips and sodas, dips and cheeses and all those little frozen nibbles, so she had to ask Apu what was going on. So Apu, ever patient from decades of working for people from all over the place, patiently explained, hiding amusement at the multitude of expressions (most of them variations of confused) going over Amaya's face.

"So it's a big football game," she repeated, "on television, and everyone gets together for a big party, even though most people are probably just watching it for commercials for stuff they probably don't even need nor will they buy, or for a show in the middle that has nothing to with the game of football at all?"

Apu confirmed that this was correct.

And Amaya shook her head. "I don't think I'll ever understand the appeal of that television thing at. all," she admitted.

Just wait until he told her about the Puppy Bowl.
