Amaya didn't get far through the door of the shop before she had to stop and boggle.

"Zounds," she breathed out, astonished. "Did someone's fairy godmother spontaneously combust in here earlier?"

No, Apu had just finally gotten up the full-on Valentine's Day displays, covering the store in pink and white, red and lace, chocolates and cutesy stuffed animals. Amaya was instantly not a fan, and then Apu got around to telling her exactly what the holiday was all about, and her opinion of it got even worse.

"So it's basically a holiday focused on telling other people your fe..." She coughed. "Your feel..." Cleared her throat. "Your..." She braced herself hard. "Feeling?"

Yup, Apu confirmed that that was correct, with a bucket on hand because it looked like Amaya might be sick.

"Ugh!" was all she could say after that. With a silent prayer that Wente Fey never found out about a holiday like Valentine's Day.

Breq had listened to the radio and learnt that the stereo had been killed and returned to life. Today it was dormant however, and refused to play anything at all. Unlike most Radchaai, Breq didn't take this as a sign from the universe, but she did take the opportunity to play the instruments while humming along. Perhaps the stereo, depending on its level on sentience, would feel just a little bit overlooked.

Someone had complained about the lingerie-clad would-be orgy in the store window today. Which was sort of offensive to Brooke, because she could have done way worse.

And in fact it was way worse until she got bored and changed it this morning before the complaining started. Like this was the worst anyone would see in this town.

Anyway, she was at the counter doing work for home, and still being a little annoyed. Her window was a masterpiece, dammit.
