Pick Your Poison, Wednesday

Sparkle was cracking up behind the counter at Pick Your Poison today. He'd stopped for coffee on the way in, and the treasure that the barista had presented to him had been more than enough to make up for any Portalocity hiccups that had come before. The conversation had started with a cordial, "You know Hot Leaf Water Guy that you keep talking down for me?" and had steamrolled right along into, "Oh shit, that's my roommate, you need to send me that video."

So now Sparkle was watching said video, filmed by the barista at the Perk during yesterday's squabble, and cackling. So much.

This is America!

So, yeah, if anybody came in for glitter or whatever today, they'd have to wait a minute. Sparkle was laughing so hard it hurt. And then starting the video over and watching it again.

The C.I.C. - Wednesday, 9am-Midnight

Vacation had been nice, but it was time to go back to work. Kaidan opened the doors, admitting the raven. The raven gave an admonishing quok to express its displeasure that the C.I.C. had been closed for so long before taking up its customary perch on the counter. It paraded back and forth on the glass, watching the street in front of the shop avidly.

Kaidan was busy adding some decorations, things he'd purchased on his vacation to Virginia Beach. Next to the 'Help Wanted' sign in the window, he added a heart-shaped rainbow vinyl cling. On the wall behind the counter, Kaidan tacked in a small brass nail and hung a framed picture of himself. It wasn't exactly a subtle statement, but it wasn't a statement he wanted to be subtle about.




Picture hung, he sighed and attempted to retrieve the remaining brass nails from the raven, who had, of course, promptly stolen the small shiny objects.

Knowing she'd planned for a pretty big project that weekend, Amaya thought it would be wise to duck into the shop for a little bit of this-and-that that day, since there wouldn't be nearly as much going on with the school on break. Just a normal day, checking the books, ordering product, refilling supplies...

...and being greeted with a rousing rendition of "Happy Birthday to You" from Apu when she walked in the door.

"Uhhh...? Apu?" she said. "It's not my birthday."

"But it is Happy Birthday to You Day, Miss Amaya!" he said, and started in on it again.

"Okay," said Amaya, who had gotten used to some pretty holidays around here, "I'm pretty sure you made that one up."

And it wasn't worth arguing with him as he put up a new sign for the day:

Everything was rainbows everywhere. Which was, well, interesting, and would have been much nicer if the stereo wasn't playing some song. Yes. Song. One. Who knew there were so many versions of some song called "Somewhere Over the Rainbow"? Kaylin sure didn't, but she could tell you something. There were lots. Lots. There were lots and lots and lots and lots. They were playing when Kaylin arrived and they were playing when she left and for all she knew they'd keep playing all night long.
