The Perk- early Monday morning

The town was clearing out for the week and so was Jaina, though she'd made a last-minute portal change that at least gave her time to get coffee. She'd planned to go back to Bastion, and then had decided this morning that what she really wanted to do was see her parents, so after figuring out where they even were, she booked one there instead. She thought she was okay after the weekend until she realized how relieved she was about this new plan.

One of the twins was fine with this arrangement, asleep in the stroller, but Dax had decided he wasn't cool with any of this and kept threatening to cry if he had to stay in there, so she finally picked him up rather than have him wake up his brother and then have to deal with both of them. "I could leave you here, you know," she told him. "Do you want to go live with the barista? Does that sound fun?"

Dax didn't answer, probably because he didn't know what a barista was.

The Causeway, Monday Morning

They were leaving a day late, because the school authorities hadn't wanted to leave while anyone might have remained in the middle of a tragic reunion. Go figure.

They'd put that message out there. Aloy had been annoyed by it: it was just another reminder that her mother, whoever she was, hadn't just magically appeared on island and divulged all her truths.

She dragged her one bag of supplies to the causeway that morning, in an irritated mood, and sat down by the causeway. Now for everyone else to arrive.
