Alluka was… honestly, well, a little down today, as she wandered into the shop and got it all ready for business. Not even admiring all of the new, pretty clothes could distract her as well as she wished they could.

It was the sort of day where she really would have rathered spend it all in her room. Just her, her toys, and Nanika.

But she had work to do and with the exam coming up, she knew that she was going to have to at least try to get used to doing things when she didn't want to.

"Maybe we should try dressing up?" she suggested, to her bunny. "Do you think that would help?"

Because, apparently, the island being...the island wasn't enough with the whole 'eggnog out of every faucet' thing , the station decided to be...the station and reprise the whole coffee-in-every-drawer phenomenon...only with eggnog instead.

"Wait a second," said Rosa, upon opening her desk drawer to confirm that, yes, it was filled with eggnog, while also kind of marveling at how well these drawers managed to retain liquid, and noticing one soggy folder trying to stay afloat, "is that my 'The Floor is Not Lava' case report?"

She looked to Ralph for answers, and mostly got a shrug. "It doesn't matter now, anyway," he said from atop a desk. "The floor is now eggnog."

Of course. Sure it was, Ralph.

"And I hope you drown in it," Rosa told him, slamming the drawer shut (with no small splattering of actual eggnog on the floor as a result), and turned on her computer, mostly just feeling glad that it wasn't eggnog, too.

Days like this, she really started to empathize with that Monday-hating, lasagna-loving arsonist cat.

There was, it would seem, at least one place on the island where you could turn something and not get eggnog, because it would seem that not even the power of the holiday strangeness could overcome the pure persistence of the Squishy machine.

Of course, one could easily argue that what you were getting from that one nozzle wasn't a whole lot better.

And Astrid had, at one point during her shift, given into the temptation of combining the two, an experiment that did not end up well for her at all, but, at the same time, she did not regret a thing.

If anyone needed her, she was easy to find at the counter, filling her sketchbook with pictures of reindeer, coloring them with borrowed teal pencils and crayons.

Verity tossed the club soda hose down in disgust, not sure why she'd even bother trying it. It didn't matter what the nozzles were attached to (and yes, she'd double-checked that they were attached and also triple-checked, just in case); everything was pouring out eggnog. The actual bottles were still fine, which was why she was helping herself to a shot of vodka, but it looked like the only mixer available was eggnog.

Only one thing to do then:

"Tiny, head out and get us some cinnamon sticks," Verity ordered. "And a whole nutmeg. We'll garnish them like we're fancy and maybe no one will realize it's tapwater eggnog or whatever."

Nell was in the doldrums today. All the Christmas cheer was making her particularly homesick even though the church didn't celebrate it the same way others did.

She spent as much time as she could in the back with her hands in the dirt.

Fandom Post Office, December 4 (Tuesday)

Éponine hadn't minded yesterday's egg nog in the slightest, so she wasn't expecting to have much of an issue with whatever holiday quirkiness the island saw fit to grace them with today.

That expectation lasted all of about ten minutes after she arrived at work, idly noting that the candy canes that seemed to have sprouted up in various spots behind the counter were a nice touch -- until she had to open a new pack of large mailing envelopes and went to get a box cutter.

Another 40 minutes of rummaging around everywhere, looking in every place she'd ever thought she remembered seeing a box cutter set down for so much as a second, and she had plenty of miniature candy canes and one still very taped-shut box of envelopes to show for it. Muttering some very colorful underworld curses in French, she got out her keys and went to work on the packing tape with that instead.

As for the candy canes, she stashed those all in a single drawer in the hopes that they'd be back to box cutters in the morning. It wouldn't do to have to order more of them just because customers decided to help themselves and eat them all before they went back to normal, would it now?
