Éponine was entertained by the current lack of color, to tell the truth; it meant she could make up her own color schemes for everything in her head, and entertain herself in the slower moments of the day by treating her surroundings like some kind of life-size interactive coloring book, visualizing how everything would look if she could go at it with paints or markers.

Some of the color schemes in her head were utterly ridiculous, and those were her favorites.

Not that it was terribly out of the ordinary for her to just start laughing every now and then for no apparent reason, but today, at least, she could justify them! Even if they were for her own private amusement.

[OOC: Post office/post open, no OCD, SP likely, blah blah etc.]

Sparkle had spent most of yesterday swearing, because did you know how difficult it was to make a properly rainbow poster for Pride when you couldn't tell blue from green from brown? Was that yellow or a very, very light pink? Maybe it was a pastel teal?

For the most part he was actually kind of tickled about the greyscale situation. It was vintage, it was kinda classy. It was going to make amazing black and white photos of things without him having to spend money on special film or whatever. But while making a rainbow stinking poster? Yeah, not quite so much. So he'd settled on the other Fandom staple for poster making, thankful that even grey glitter was still glittery glitter, and just liberally sprinkled it all over the big swooshy text that said PRIDE across the top.

THE THIRD ANNUAL FANDOM

This Saturday, June 29th

Parade in the morning, followed by a picnic in the park

No matter who you are or how you love, you are INCREDIBLE!

Come join us on Saturday for a celebration of identity, an affirmation of our right to BE, and a defiant reminder to the world that we aren't going anywhere.

BE YOUR OWN SELF!

... And then he'd stapled little envelopes to the bottom of each poster, containing pamphlets explaining the history of Pride, an explanation of the flags and different identities, and a map of the parade route, starting at the Causeway. From there it would follow Griffin Lane to Galactica Drive, Serendipity Place, Godiva Street, back onto Serendipity and following it until it turned into Loon and Loon turned into Chimera. Then one final turn onto Apocalypse before ending up at the Park for the picnic. He'd wrapped it all up with the smaller, fiddlier details, like times and meeting places and how to contribute a booth to the picnic, and his contact information if anybody had any further questions.

And so help him, he managed to do it all in black and white.

Beware of stray glitter, though. He'd used a lot to compensate for his inability to scribble rainbows on these things in marker.

[OOC: Open if you want to see the posters or bump into Sparkle while he's hanging them up around town!

Okay, after taking most of the day yesterday to just sort of rest and recover from the previous week (which, okay, honestly? Real talk? Wasn't really that bad...orrrr maybe she just had a little too much experience with temporarily being turned into horrific things? Okay, probably the latter. This one was pretty bad, but she wasn't sure anything was ever going to beat that time she'd wound up not only giant in size but also with her skin turned inside out), Summer was ready to get back to work, although she was a little miffed at Pancakes. Seriously, they'd literally spent a whole evening not too long ago talking about how Pancakes had a list of people she wanted to eat and in what order she'd like to eat them, and then she turns around and gets all offended when Summer turns around and tries to eat her (again). Um, hello? Hypocrite much? Cats were seriously sometimes the worst.

But...it seemed like a pretty normal week so far with the sleek, artsy, noir-esque black-and-white theme going on, and, while this sort of put a damper on Summer's intention to celebrate obscenely pink cocktails for her birthday, she figured it would be safe to still have her birthday party this week, and there could be an interesting 'guess the cocktail' game out of the lack of color. So she handwavily sent out another bunch of texts and emails to the other adults in town letting them know that her birthday party was still so totally on for this week, so be there and wear your brightest, most colorful party clothes!

Yes, she thought she was funny.

So then there was that, and then there was taking care of orders at the store, so she went to do that, but there was at least a pause of eyeing the Squishy machine a bit skeptically, based on its proclamation of a certain flavor that, no...no, definitely was still colorless when she poured it, despite its lofty claims.

Well. No time like the present, really.

Especially since, 'round here this summer, the present was likely to up and decide to be something else on a week-by-week basis. The black-and-white didn't seem too bad at least, but...well...it wasn't something she'd really thought about much, but Amaya was realizing how much she depended on certain little color cues in the way her steel heated or the way the fire leaned more toward orange or blue to help determine whether it was ready for working. She was pretty sure she could figure it out easy enough; she'd been doing this for so long that even those visual clue were probably just on the surface, but, on the other hand, no point in making things more difficult or messing anything up unnecessarily.

Decent weather, too. She'd wanted to do some remodeling on the apartment to put in that greenhouse, after all, just off the bedroom, for the summer, and, well, she was likely going to run out of summer before she knew it, she had the blueprints all figured out, might as well get to it.

So there was a sign on the counter in the forge that day, big letters painted on a large board: THANKS FOR COMING IN! Working upstairs! Ring bell for service! with a big arrow pointed toward a bell hooked up to a lever and...a few others things. It was clear that, pulling the lever would not only ring the little bell it was attached to, but it would also pull on the compicated mess of wires and strings leading up toward the ceiling, across it, toward the stairs, up through the door leading to the apartment, through the apartment, to where Amaya was diligently and carefully tearing down a few walls, a bit of the roof, putting up some makeshift ones and getting tarps on the ready, and working on the new framework for the greenhouse, and where another bell would ring to alert her, even over the sounds of all that hammering and sawing, that someone'd come into the shop.

It was a good, hearty sort of project, one that required most of her attention, so she wouldn't go finding herself distracted and thinking about the last week, and a few things she was trying to convince herself she was better off not thinking about at all.

It was... weird... walking into an animal shelter where even the parrots were grey. Okay, some of them were supposed to be, but even galahs and African greys had some flash of red or pink somewhere. This was just... desaturated. And so Zack spent a long while just kind of sitting and staring at them in silence before doing the rest of his rounds around the shelter.

He didn't predict many people going home with parrots this week, they tended to catch people's eye with their plumage, after all. But at least grey puppies were still puppies, and a merry romp around the puppy playpen was absolutely in order after last week, darn it.

Furnado was open! And even mostly normal!

This week wasn't entirely terrible! Sure, the black and white was super boring, but nothing was actively trying to kill them (so far) and they didn't have things like a food shortage, so this was a win!

Of course the current look of the island apparently did make Tino think he was funny, because when Kitty walked in the first thing she saw was:

SPECIALS
LAYERED DRINKS

"You're not cute," Kitty told him.

Today's Specials
Is It Chocolate Pudding or Congealed Blood?
Pancakes With Mystery Topping and Grey Juice (that we're pretty sure should be orange)
Mashed Potato

Mitsutada was embracing that anarchic energy, for once. "This is all nonsense but what else can we do?"

The staff nodded in agreement.

"...this worries me."

It felt a little like embracing something wrong, getting along with the Luke's staff.

But Luke's was open!

Checking up on Nina's little 'project' had turned very weird. In, like, an 'upset teen girl' kind of way. And so Hardison, the human embodiment of a Care Bear, had done the natural thing - invited her out for milkshakes and a friendly ear.

He'd arrived about ten minutes after they'd hung up, grabbing a booth, grinning at the picture of his kids, and paid for two large milkshakes, flavors to be decided when Nina arrived.

...Except coffee. He pretty sure the girl didn't need any more caffeine. Or maybe just any at all. The sugar was going to be plenty dammit.

That taken care of, her grabbed a table, pulled out his phone, and poked around while he waited.

[Hardison here for one, but Chilly Boulder open for other folks to stop by! Though SP in effect as the husband is coming home in 3 hours and I have to pretend like I haven't been a trash-goblin for a week.]
