Caritas; Wednesday [09/18].

It was very quiet in Caritas that night, which, after last week, was an eerie but not entirely unwelcome change of pace. But the zombies, in their inspired quest for unionization, were effectively doing a silent protest.

And Summer supported the shit out of them. It was bad enough that they had live a second life on this mortal coil, but then they had to go and spend a good chunk of that second life performing like decaying monkeys for the drunken living.

At least one NPC patron seemed surprised that Summer was so down with this. Wasn't she worried about this whole labor movement leaking over to Turtle & Canary next?

"No, because T&C more than fairly compensates its employees," she stated, with a faint air of offense that anyone would suggest otherwise. "And even if they weren't satisfied now, it's Shunsui's problem, not mine. But still, I even tried to make Apu take his vacation days, but he refused. That man is a workaholic."

And then the patron asked about the panda.

"Ugh! That panda is not an employee of Turtle & Canary, and can get bent. He just showed up one day and started harassing people about cheese on his own volition. We don't owe him crap."

And that...was that.

Summer thought that maybe she should have looked into exactly what sort of labor rights the zombies were demanding, but...eh. She'd trust that they were all legit and valid, and she was more in support of the idea that they could protest if they wanted to more than anything else.

Caritas is open!

The Beach - Wednesday afternoon.

Kaidan had spent so much time on a ship that he had acquired the sort of paleness under his inborn tan that had Jack making jokes about nerds and basements. There was only so much realness he could take before he'd decided to head down to the beach for a day outside. A large microfiber blanket was held down with rocks, a cooler with various non-alcoholic beverages, and some snacks, sat nearby.

The first thing he did was go for a swim. The ocean was bracing but as long as he stayed near the shallows, it wasn't so bad. Every so often a wave would come in from further out in the depths to remind him of that, slapping across his body with a shock of breath-stealing cold. Kaidan was Canadian, he'd spent his formative years in Vancouver, and more importantly, Kaidan was stubborn. He swam until his muscles burned with it. Then went to flop on the blanket in the mottled sunlight, sunglasses over his eyes and the towel he'd wiped off the wet with folded under his head as a pillow. When he overheated or overcooked, he'd go swim again and then switch sides.

Laying back, listening to the water hit the rocks. Listening to the birds and other animals, the occasional snatch of conversation from people further inland. Planet noises, nothing like the whine and ping of metal under stress, the hum of a drive core, the rising whine of thrusters.

Back dirtside. Back on Earth, on the island. Still getting used to that.

Turtle & Canary; Wednesday [09/18].

So far, Wednesdays in general seemed to be working out fairly well for Shunsui to make his big day at the store; he flitted in here and there on occasion when he was out and about, sure, but he realized it did a lot for morale if he showed up for at least a whole solid day, even if it was just to make appearances.

And, really, one thing that hadn't changed about the island was that behind the counter at Turtle & Canary was still an exceptionally lovely place to nap. Canary-chan was singing softly every once in a while like a gentle lullaby, and Turtle-chan was slowly crawling around her tank as a reminder to Shunsui and everyone that life was meant to take as at a liesurely pace. We all got to our destinations eventually, might as well really take the time to enjoy the view as we went along.

And, right now, Shunsui's destination was a nice light nap that he could pull himself out of easily if any customers happened to swing by, and it would not be a long journey to get there at all.

It appeared Summer-chan had finally removed the Newbie Special sign, which was fine by him, though the "Now Hiring" sign absolutely stayed up, and would probably stay up, unchanged, even well after Summer-chan was gone.

The Park, Wednesday morning

Issa had, for unknown cat reasons, been restless all night, meaning she had been running around the bedroom, jumping on Seivarden and occasionally wailing as if she was being tortured.

This was why the two of them were in the park, Issa running around looking for her best friend and complaining loudly when she couldn't find him, and Seivarden sitting on a bench with a thermos of tea and looking very sleepy.
