After a weekend that was pretty much just filled with awkwardness (the awkwardness of Liam's party, the awkwardness of literally doing anything with her dad, this time in the form of a one-on-one dinner as a belated Father's Day thing), Summer was really looking forward to the rote routine of her Mondays at Turtle & Canary, taking stock, making orders, doing all the paperwork for the previous week, sans any sort of awkwardness...

...outside of the usual, anyway, because there was always at least something, if not with Apu, then with the cheese panda, but this time, it was definitely with Apu, and the awkwardness of not trying to sound cultrally insensitive when veto'ing his particular mood in music that day.

"You know there's a reason we can't play Bollywood here on Mondays, Apu," she insisted, because they'd been over this before, but Apu felt he still had a compelling case to make.

"...why would I feel left out because my besties' boyfriends turned into animals and mine didn't? Is that how you think besties work?"

Actually, considering that he sometimes claimed his bestie was Tino....Summer wouldn't be all that surprised.

Either way, there was a veto on the music, but she didn't trust it, and was half-expecting a Bollywood sneak-attack, so she made sure to at least text a warning to Barry if he planned on stopping in.

Rosa was sorting through some mail that morning in her D&A office when she came across a letter that contained a pretty hefty check for services rendered...services that she...didn't actually remember rendering. But, being a detective and all, it didn't take long for her to locate a very brief exchange of emails where someone had sent her a bunch of evidence regarding a case, one that seemed too stupid to bother with, so she'd just responded back with a simple, sarcastic "The butler did it" and swiftly forgot all about it.

But apparently, the butler had done it, and now they were singing the praises of her deductive reasoning and promising to leave a good review on Yelp and recommend her to any of their friends who might need some private investigation work.

...and you know what?

She'll take it.

Statistically speaking, what were the odds of her hitting that mark if she just responded to all her emails that way from now on?

It seemed like something worth considering...

Even though Sakaki knew that her plushies never really turned out very good, she was hoping that the Neco Coneco she had worked on last night could serve as a sort of peace offering between herself and the cats at the shelter. So it was with a great reverence that she brought the little stuffed lump that looked absolutely nothing like the adorable characters it was supposed to, set it down on the floor before the cats like an offering, and then slowly...slowly...backed away.

They approached the thing cautiously, leaning in to give it a suspicious sniff, bat at it a few times. Sakaki's heart was racing in her chest, pounding so hard she worried it might burst, as she eagerly witnessed one of them nuzzling its head against what was supposed to be smaller of the two cats with a little purr.

It worked! It actually worked! They would make friends with the Neco Coneco plush, and then, maybe, just maybe, they would make friends with he--

What happened next happened so fast that Sakaki felt like blinking was a mistake, because all of a sudden, there was a horrible caterwauling, and then there was a flurry of claws and teeth and fluff and fabric, and the next minute, all that was left of Neco Coneco was a tattered pile of stuffing and felt, and the cats went tearing off to somewhere else in the shelter, their message being delivered and heard, loud and clear.

One day, Sakaki might have to perform a surgery like this on an actual animal, but for today? She was deftly in the operating room (figuratively speaking, she was just sitting on the counter) trying to piece the poor thing together, although anyone who saw it before the mauling would probably suggest she just put it out of its misery already.

Steve had promised the Troopers donuts from the new donut place if they went for a run--since it 90 when he started, they also required iced coffees--and was now staring, enraptured, at his desk. "It just popped right up there on my desk!"

It was the little things, okay? It almost made up for the phone notification that he and Danny had another therapy appointment in Honolulu this Wednesday.
