Who would have thought there would be such a rush and a high demand for Thanksgiving theme floral centerpieces this year? Even though Astrid realized she'd been working on a few of them here and there for weeks, she wasn't expecting the sheer deluge that came with the day before the actual holiday itself.

So Covent Garden was actually pretty busy that day, with Astrid scrambling to get pieces done before their pick-up time, and as a result, not a lot of them were exactly her best work, but, well, that's what they got, she decided, for waiting until the very last minutes, and on a day when the employee's typical default setting was 'apathetic at best.'

They were all definitely getting oleanders in their arrangements, too.

And one would think that the place that would really be hopping on the day before a big food holiday would be the island's premiere grocery destination, but Shunsui's was a chill that seemed to permiate through even the most stressed and worried and desperate last-minute shoppers. Apu-san was at his finest, running around for this or that, and making some truly excellent display towers out of canned cranberry sauce and green beans, the fights over cheese to serve with the cheese panda were at a minimum, and, if there was an issue, Shunsui just threw alcohol at it and the problem was quickly solved!

Plus, it was kind of a weird island. It wasn't really that much of a surprise that, somehow, there wasn't much of a market for Thanksgiving food with the various NPCs and sundry as there were for, as, floral arrangements, apparently.

Not that it really mattered too much to Shunsui. He didn't really think much of the holiday at all, but Apu-san had mentioned that, apparently, today was the biggest drinking day of the year, and, well, that was a holiday he could get behind and would be more than happy to help contribute to!

Did Summer have a banner made for the outside of the bar specifically for this day? Maaaayyyybeeeee.

Look, some people might not have heard the news that she was back; it was her duty to make sure even the most casual of passersby knew that Cartias would once again be the place to be on any given Wednesday.

Especially with how hard she had worked on her jello shots literally all day, because she had a reputation to uphold, and that wasn't, like, a ton of pressure or anything, no! It was fine! She got this! And the bar seemed to really be in that Thanksgiving mood, too, what with the fact that there was definitely a party of turkeys taking over the back room. Like, okay, she definitely got it that there was a big appeal in a sort of doomsday last-night-on-Earth revelry going on, but also, it was Wednesday night? If anyone was going to be eating theose turkeys, they would have had to have killed them and prepared them, like, way sooner than this, right?

She didn't know how any of that worked. And, honestly, most of her attention was going toward the zombie band, anyway, who kept trying to play Christmas music, and that? That she was definitely shutting right down.

Another Wednesday, another playlist whim. This week, the sound system seemed a little indecisive: it kept going back and forth between sultry, suggestive jazz numbers and loud hard rock stuff. Even Octavia, who generally could barely comprehend caring about mixing genres, found it kind of an odd combination.

Still, it seemed to work, in its own weird way.

And while she listened, and worked, she sipped at a glass of some non-alcoholic brandy that had come in as a sample.

It didn't feel like the real thing.

(But a part of her felt like it did, anyway.)

The Perk - Wednesday Afternoon

It was Wednesday and of course that meant that Jo was having her usual hot cocoa at her favourite table by the window after classes had finished. She wasn’t going home since she didn’t celebrate Thanksgiving, being British and all but the holiday season had got her to start thinking that she should start looking into returning home for Christmas.

It was going to be a different sort of Christmas than last year because last year her mother had been telling everyone who would listen how she was at Malory Towers - the exclusive boarding school for girls and now here she was at a co ed American high school in the future, not that her parents knew everything about Fandom and she certainly wasn’t going to be correcting that any time soon.

It was strange to think how much everything had changed in a year and hopefully she had also changed for the better. She wondered how her mother was explaining why she was at a new school in another country - her father had made good on his word to not make light of her expulsion with his friends but she didn’t know how her mum was handling it since out of her parents it was her mother who cared more about appearances and reputation.

She took a sip of cocoa and stared out the window as she considered making arrangements for returning home.
