Steven's conversation with Henry the night before had inspired Steven to work on another display for the museum. This time about how the native animals kept cool in the summertime. Which required Steven to actually research the answer to that information. But he figured it was the sort of thing that could go up at any point during the summer months, so he wasn't worried if it was a project that couldn't be completed in a day.

While he worked, Steven hummed a song to himself and looked generally cheerful. Because that's how he felt. Sometimes things really were that simple.

Pixie Dust; Thursday [05/30].

Inspired by his conversation with Lydia that weekend at the bakery, Boc had spent most of his week, yesterday's utter mistake of a venture out into the world notwithstanding, working on some shorts. Not making them himself, although he now had a better understanding of how they worked and were put together and might attempt to sew some up later, but rather decorating them, making them a little more interesting, a little more fancy, with a liberal application of ribbons, lace, embroidery, and everything in between.

Including adding capes to the the back of some of them.

Look, Boc sometimes just really liked adding capes to things. But the good thing was that he was just as good at removing them as he was putting them on, so it worked out well, either way!

Eleanor had decided to splurge a little this week by buying herself a few new books of poetry to dive into, trying to catch herself up on some of the sixty-odd years of literary material between this time and hers, and there was honestly a lot of modern poetry that she had trouble getting into.

But it had its moments:

She’s gonna learn that this life will hit you, hard, in the face, wait for you to get back up so it can kick you in the stomach. But getting the wind knocked out of you is the only way to remind your lungs how much they like the taste of air. There is hurt, here, that cannot be fixed by band-aids or poetry.

So there was a thoughtful, pensive, poetic mood today, being encouraged by a cup of hot tea, and she was still wearing her cheese shirt from yesterday.

Remember that good things come in threes and so do bad things and always apologize when you’ve done something wrong but don’t you ever apologize for the way your eyes refuse to stop shining.

And she frowned and wondered where were the good things? When she finally got them, did they come with interest?

Somehow she didn't think they would.

Duke was in rare form today at the diner. He was in the magical between place where he didn't have an active trouble and he didn't feel like he might explode if he moved wrong.

What could he do but overdo it?

"No," Greg said, taking the grease pencil out of Duke's hand. "Three specials is plenty."

It was the last Thursday of the month so Liz was spending her morning trying to get all the end of month admin tasks finished, on top of the regular admin work that she had to complete so it was shaping up to be another busy day. In addition to her general work, she was looking through the stock and seeing if anything needed to ordered for the store, which admittedly was proving to be the more interesting task out of everything that needed to be done that day.

Watts had once again had the sort of night where he had not slept well. Thus it was that partway through the morning, Watts made the decision to have a little nap under the desk. Surely he would be awake again by the time lunch time rolled around?
