Jack was more occupied today with keeping the floor clean and safe for customers than he was with serving. That's not to say that he wasn't available, just that anyone wanting their order taken would have to wait a few moments while he put the mop out of harm's way.

The truth was that all the rain was getting Lacey down. Oh, she was trying not to show it, which only meant delving into a fit of forced manic cheerfulness that made it even more obvious that she was trying to overcompensate for something.

But the upshot of all that was that the dessert case in the diner today was filled with brightly-colored, elaborately frosted baked goods.

So it wasn't too bad, was it?

Today's Specials
Grilled Pork Tenderloin with Cherry Salsa
Chicken Parmesan Burgers
Olive-Oil Cake with Candied Orange

Luke's is open -- mind the sugar high from just looking at the dessert case.

Momoko was beginning to dislike today. Despite the sort-of comfort of the sort-of familiar skyline still in the distance, she was really feeling the combination of the totally horrible judgements in these case files and the almost constant rain. She was going to finish this case, then...

She was still here for the rest of the day. "Ugh." Her head hit the desk for a moment. "Forget my bento. For lunch, I am totally going somewhere and eating my weight in sweets."

Sitting back up and slightly renewed by her decision, she pulled the files and notebook back to her and got back to work.

"This is just wrong!" Scribble.

"How can you even ignore that! It's a DNA test! Ugh." Scribble, scribble.

"I can't believe a judge would do this. She's still his mother!" Scribble, erase, scratch, scribble.

... It was wrong to hope for clients to walk in so she could do something else, right? Or an invasion. A monster attack would be really nice right now. Momoko could totally punch something!

Angelica was starting to relax more and wasn't so afraid she might hurt the horses, but the weather still had her frowning. The horses were restless from being cooped up during the rain. "I know, I know," she said, stroking Smudge's neck when it was her turn to be groomed. "If it lets up for awhile this afternoon, I'll take you out, I promise."

She doubted anyone would come by for rides in the meantime, so she kept herself busy cleaning up the equipment.

Caritas, Monday

Another Monday, another shift at Caritas... another weird-ass delivery.

This time it was a box full of bottles of some dubious-looking substance labelled "love potion" and a handbook entitled "Pig Breeding For Dummies."

Jake just stared at the contents of the box. "What." A pause, and then he foisted the whole thing off on Tino.

Just. What?

Right. One hour for lunch was all she got before she had to go back to the office, so Momoko was limited in what she could actually order. Which was horribly mean since the cafe had apparently decided to try an Asian theme with some of their dishes.

But she was working and an hour it was, so Momoko had to settle for a few green tea mochi ice creams, an almond melon tart, and whatever a 'coconut milk, melon with sago' was.

...

And if Jaime happened by, there was a whole plate of totally cute onigiri off the children's menu sitting on the table, so he couldn't be mad that she wasn't eating real food.

She decided to start with the melon sago thing. "This will totally take my mind off stupid judges being stupid and horrible!" Itadakimasu! "Even if I do have to go back."

[Momoko is here for lunch. Feel free to join her or eat on your own! The Fina is open!]

Jack was back behind the bar, excited for the beginning of summer (or so he'd heard--it was still pouring outside, so it didn't exactly feel like cookout weather). He was even working on making a mojito!

On glass of rum with a piece of mint in it, and an ice cube. Close enough, right?

Halfway through the evening he began to wonder just how dead Eric would kill him if he drank one just to drown out the DJ and his endless repeat of "Proud to be an American."

As far as Jack could tell, the DJ wasn't American. Or possibly even from this planet.

The Devil's Nest was open. And weirdly patriotic.

It was a good thing Ariel had Jim's solar surfer and how much fun it would be to give it a try once they got some sunshine in this place to distract her. She was moving on in her reverse alphabet with music, and had reached Uncle Kracker she was thoroughly unimpressed.

Although, if she thought about it, crackers could be kind of bland and boring, and so....approriate.

She sighed, and easily slipped off into daydreams about flying on a surfboard.

Groovy Tunes is open!

There were red wires. There were blue wires. And there were white wires!

And they were all over the shop today; Butters thought it would be a nice patriotic touch for Memorial Day, and it made for a very fitting decoration for a place like Fixer Uppers. So he spent a good portion of time today stringing up the wires for the holiday and wondering if anyone would come in to take him up on that make-out offer from radio.

He didn't think it was very likely, but it would sure be nice!

Fixer Uppers is open!
