Victor's phone kept buzzing while he was at work today. According to Chase, assisting a shock jock at a radio station was the most awesome job anyone had ever had, and he seemed to be determined to make Victor jealous via text messaging. (He also sounded a bit tetchy about basically supporting the team, and their assorted junk food addictions, on his own. Victor sent back part of what he made at the repair shop, but it was not exactly a fortune.)

Looking at the photos Chase had taken backstage at some metal festival, Victor was ... almost jealous. A smidge. He'd be more jealous if they were better bands.

He was still curious enough to try to figure out how to pull down a stream of the radio show Chase worked on. He'd be doing that until somebody came into the shop.

[OOC: Open repair shop.]

There were boxes open in the aisles in the store today. Inventory had come in so Sam was unloading and stocking parts, pieces and tools so the shelves would be fully stuffed with merchandise. He knew he didn't have much time left so he wanted to make sure he left the shop in good working order when he did leave.

It was kind of bittersweet, sure, but Sam was trying not to think about that. He had a pencil behind his ear, a clipboard on the counter and parts all over the place so he could stock and check things off when he got them down.

Mary was certain that the fruit bowl at the front desk was empty last night. This morning, she arrived to find it full of different varieties of squash. She would have to check the video cameras to see if Gunther put them out as a joke.

Since Kitty had gotten in today, Tino had not stopped yawning. At first she'd assumed he was just tired, but then- and this was not an exaggeration- the zombies started seeming even more lethargic when she went to tape on the drummer's arm. Once she got back behind the bar (after a thorough washing of her hands, because seriously) she noticed that Tino just put his head down on his arms on the bar like he was going to sleep.

She was starting to feel a little insulted. If nothing else, she was wearing leather pants, so no one should be finding her that boring.

[So today, if you so choose, anyone who gets around Kitty will just get really, really tired. That's right: there's a Kitty nap field at work. If she curls up in your lap, so help you.

Open bar, minor SP while at work!]

K-Mart was humming cheerfully as she bustled around the store, fixing displays and putting away returns and doing all the other random little tasks her job required. Once that was done she settled down, still humming, behind the counter and flipped open a magazine.

And then remembered the sign she'd made. She bounced up, put the sign in the window, and sat back down.

DISCOUNT DAY!
Half off if it's used in an Olympic event!

Sorry, Sean, she made an executive decision here.

He was thirsty after a couple of hours rummaging in the junkyard for scrap metal and circuitry, and all Anakin had wanted to do was get something cold to drink. Unfortunately, his decision to stop in at the Perk in pursuit of the aforementioned chilled beverage turned out to be a bad one: the barista kept trying to persuade him to try one particular brand of coffee.

He said that he wasn't sleepy and therefore didn't care if it had the highest caffeine density legally available in the marketplace; she countered by telling him they had an adolescent blend that'd help keep him from getting distracted "you know, the way teenage boys do." He told her that he had no idea what she meant by that, and besides, it was too kriffing hot out for coffee; she tried to sell him on their refreshing summer blend.

In the end he came really close to mindtricking her to get her to stop, but decided against it. Which was why Anakin was now sitting at a table with a cup of iced WorkJuice, looking slightly put out.

. . . all right, it was pretty good stuff, he'd reluctantly admit to that.

[OOC: I basically dared [livejournal.com profile] fates_jaye to do the Chilly Boulder post yesterday, so I'm holding up my end of the TAH-inspired bargain. Open!]

Bruce was not over in the meditation area. Nope. Instead he was watching and re-watching footage from Mars.

Because that's what science geeks do, Yo.

"Don't worry, it's not another genderswap day and nobody told you," Jack deadpanned, as he walked into the classroom at the community center. The sensitives in the room might pick up that he was nervous about his first time teaching, but he kept his exterior unruffled. "Emma's been called out of town and she asked Bobby and me to cover. My name's Jack Priest and today, we're going to discuss living with psychics as one of the poor deprived headblind. If you area telepath, please, chime in during the discussion."

He leaned back against a table, crossed his arms. "The first thing is privacy. It doesn't exist. You get used to it, or you don't. Shielding's a basic courtesy, if you can learn it -- but not everyone can, and sometimes you won't have the energy. That said, most telepaths can find better ways to spend their time than listening to you mentally nattering on about whether you look fat in your pants. Imagine a room with a thousand radios playing, and think about how closely you could follow any one broadcast, and that's about how hard most psychics I've known listen to most people most of the time."

"The second thing" -- and here he sounded more sympathetic -- "is headaches. They're fairly universal with mental powers, from what I can tell. Treat them like any illness. Bring cool drinks, bring aspirin, don't sit outside the telepath's room and think loud things at her unless you're trying to be mean."

"And the third is mind-to-mind communication. The first time there's a voice in your head can be … deeply unpleasant. Try not to jump or shout. But if you pick up the trick of speaking mentally -- and I found it surprisingly easy -- it's extremely useful when you can't have your conversation aloud."

He glanced to his co-teacher. "Anything to add, Bobby?"

“For all that talk of telepaths not being interested in your everyday thoughts- sometimes, that’s not gonna be true,” Bobby said matter-of-factly. “Just like the rest of us are prone to eavesdropping on occasion, if you’re around telepaths and you happen to know something they want to know- that’s when the shielding is less of a courtesy and more for your own benefit.” Yeah, he’d had more than a few people rummaging around in his head for information at points, could you tell?

“If you don’t know how to shield thoughts specifically, singing a song in your head can sometimes work. Although that one can backfire because it’s sort of like a signal to anyone who might be listening in that there’s something you don’t want them to know.”

"Kind of like talking in Pig Latin," Jack had to agree, before turning to the group. "And now it's your turn. What's one thing you've learned about living with telepaths? If you are a telepath, what's one thing you with people knew about you?"
