Jack spent Sunday shut in his bedroom with books he'd already read, not wanting to move or act or even think too hard.

Seeing dead people took a lot out of him. Seeing his friends see dead people wasn't much better -- was worse, in some ways, because at least he could tell himself Irina would be dead by 2013 no matter what, which wasn't true of Laura, Lionel or Christian. (And Ashley shouldn't even exist yet.) Time travel could be a decidedly mixed blessing.

But now it was another Monday, and Jack was at the club even before Tiny in an attempt to snap himself out of this -- whatever it was. He settled in with a restaurant equipment catalog and began putting together a fresh order for glassware and bar tools. That was one good thing about his job; there was always something to do.

Sometimes, when Sam didn't sleep, he took walks. And sometimes, those walks led him far, far away from Seattle. This was probably the furthest he'd ended up from Seattle after a night of sleeplessness. He barely even remembered scheduling a portal but, apparently, he had.

And since he was here and all, he figured he could order himself the strongest cup of coffee known to man and something sweet and enjoy the fact that it wasn't raining here. His last time here hadn't been so bad (little did he know) so he figured he'd take the chance.

Maybe his luck was turning for the better? Or maybe it was just waiting to screw him over again. It didn't matter too much to Sam right now. He was tired and weary but he had caffeine and a muffin so he could live.

Later, he'd go back to Seattle and raise the dead. Such was his life.

So, that thing had happened, and Emily had basically decided to hide under her bed and deal with her father not being anywhere near. She was glad, in a way, because she knew it would be all the worst to have something and lose it right away, but still, seeing everyone else with their dead people having a somewhat good, if not awkward good time had made her...maybe a bit...just slightly.

Jealous.

So there she as, almost knee deep into the water, arms folded around her, looking particularly pissed off at the world.

Business as usual.

Alice did not feel like crap anymore. For now. She might have even been on a good mood, or at least better than the one she had been stuck on until that morning, but that wasn't really an accomplishment.

The fact she could've been humming while she arranged a rather nice display of bows and crossbows surely had no relevance to this fine day for business. And maybe shooting at things.

The store was open.

The store was open, but the manager was suspiciously absent from the counter, where a piece of paper sat with Yell for service scrawled on it in Surreal's messy hand.

Surreal herself was down in the basement. Taking out the upset anger frustration of losing her mother Titian a second time on the punching bag she'd hung from the ceiling.

The Magic Box was open, but you'll need to holler for service.

"Spatula."

"Spatula."

"Gently. . . . Gently. . . . Okay, gotta move faster here, people, we have a limited window for success!"

"Do you want me to be gentle, or fast?"

"What kind of chef are you? Be both! Ladle!"

"Ladle."

*CRASH!*

The cook, dishwasher, and Priestly all spun to stare at the busboy, and his dropped pile of ramekins.

"DAMMIT, MAN!" Priestly roared. "Are you trying to make us lose this patient?!"

The cook smacked him in the head with the ladle.

Cade really didn't want to be at work today, but he was now flat broke and out of drugs, so...paycheck. Paycheck would be good.

Working, however, was completely out of the question. He was parked behind the counter with his eyes closed, "meditating."

As he snored. Cade was such an inspiration to workers everywhere.
