Fandom Post Office, August 27 (Tuesday)
Tuesday, August 27th, 2013 08:17 amAs mundane and strange as it might seem, one of the biggest adjustments that Éponine had been obliged to make over the past several months had been to actually pay attention to the days, and the calendar, and the passage of time. (It was necessary; she liked being able to afford looking after herself, and for that she needed to make sure she got to work every day and on time. Reasonably on time, anyhow.) That wasn't something she'd been in much of the habit of doing before, on those occasions when she wasn't so delirious from hunger as to have no concept of the passage of time, unless whatever she was doing at the time depended on it.
She was mostly bemused by the realization that another month was almost over -- not surprised or panicked, really, unlike her coworkers, who would exclaim things like "Can you believe it's almost September already? When did that happen?" Éponine's response was to just look at them with her half-unfocused stare and laugh, much to their perturbation.
They were at least handling it better than the one (presumed) employee in the corner of the lobby, wrapped in cloth, rotating slowly in place, and humming.
Every time Éponine passed that figure on her way through she'd stop, shake her head, and say something along the lines of "Honestly now, it isn't as upsetting as all that. Good lord."
