Fandom Post Office, October 8 (Tuesday)

The post office was well on its way to being neater and less disorganized by the end of the day than it had been in, possibly, years. A rather mortified regular customer who always came in first thing on Tuesdays had mumbled something this morning about possibly switching to stamps.com for reasons that had something to do with unexpected blood seeping out of the PO boxes.

This was entirely untrue, but it gave Éponine an excuse to mount a maniacal cleaning effort in an aggressive attempt at pretending to be just fine, thanks. She'd brought Alouette in with her today, and the cat was curled up in a corner looking incredibly judgmental about her human's behavior.

"You're not helping, you know," Éponine muttered to Alouette, "and I've a suspicion your namesake wouldn't approve of your behavior."

So, while last week was technically supposed to be Evan's first shift at the bookstore, pollen wouldn't have been at all conducive to learning how to work a till. So, today he was finally here, getting acquainted with the layout (not that he didn't already know it off by heart) and how to work the till (which was, in fact, an altogether new experience for him.)

And the entire time, there was a big smile on his face. He was, if not a kid in a candy store, at least a geek in a bookstore, and that made today good.

It was just quiet enough tonight that Kitty felt okay having her laptop with her at the bar, where she could happily do some research on where they were going on the trip. Seriously, this traveling-for-fun-where-nothing-bad-happens was becoming something she was actually used to.

Of course Tino was sulking because he couldn't go. Kitty almost pointed out that he could try teaching a class next semester, but kept that to herself because um, no one wanted that.

Okay, so Sheila had spent the better part of a week settling in -- if that was what you called getting cast in a musical and having drunken threesomes, which she did. Time to actually fulfill some of her responsibilities around here, such as opening the store.

Honestly, had she known what 'oddities' were, she probably would have lobbied harder to change the name.
