Alec was incredibly graceful, on account of being part-angel and all, so he did not slip and fall on the ice that appeared under his feet on the way to work today. He didn't like it so much when the ice appeared inside the shop, though. When it melted, the floor was going to be wet, and was the island going to clean that up all by itself?

As it turned out, no. It didn't.

So he had a mop and bucket and a few rolls of paper towels, and he was just going to work his way through cleaning the floor. Alec had exactly zero experience in this topic, so it was a little... inefficient, the way he was going about it.

Not a lot of people knew this, but April was a huge fan of cold weather. And despite her generally sedentary life, she was even a fan of cold weather activities. Like figure skating.

She stopped by the pond in the park a few times early this morning before she determined that it was completely frozen over. And while ordinarily she wouldn't trust a just-frozen pond to have thick enough ice to be sturdy, the ice that had somehow manifested on dry land was pretty sturdy, so April figured that this was an island thing and she could probably trust it.

Famous last words (well, thoughts), but April was going with it.

She strapped on a pair of hockey skates she had rented from the sporting goods place in town, set her iPod on the ground just off to the side with the volume cranked way up, and she glided onto the ice.

She was actually a pretty great skater, and if anyone else stopped by, she was going to implore them to join her. Just saying.

The less than optimal service at the two newly Hyperion-owned restaurants had been going on for several days now, and was still going strong. The presence of the yellow-clad workers was no longer confined to the restaurants, however. There seemed to be more of them with each passing day, although they were mostly congregating towards the previously unexplored wooded area in town, grumbling about hazardous working conditions on their way as patches of ground occasionally turned into ice under their feet.

Still, the ice didn't keep them from their work. For certain teams of them, Friday morning was spent on installing a specific kind of vending machine along with antenna-like terminals around town. The grid powering them as well as their functions had not been turned on yet, so for now they were just inoffensively sitting there in their assigned places.

(Except for the machine and terminal pair in the dorm lobby. They were just sitting there, very much inoffensively. But no, that had not actually been their assigned place and yes, someone was probably going to get in trouble for that.)

After the last ones were installed outside that place called The Perkolator, the Hyperion workers went back to their other tasks. Mostly around the wooded area.

Meanwhile, all around town, tiny lock boxes, just large enough to hold a modest sum of cash (and they did), were starting to appear in nooks and crannies, just waiting to be found. Whether that was because the newcomers to the island were really inept at managing their finances, or because Fandom was somehow adjusting to their presence? Well, that was anyone's guess.

[ooc: Money in tiny boxes! Strange machines that... don't do anything yet! Moar yellow-clad people around the island! Also, the map of Fandom now looks like THIS.
This post is also open for general reactions/gawking at machines and such, just note where you are in case others want to gawk with you! Or you can also do so in a post of your own!]

On the positive side: The Cheese Panda seemed to find a sort of Zen-like satisfaction in sweeping the floor. A few scattered space heaters and a mop instead of a broom, and it was doing pretty well with the spontaneous-ice problem.

On the negative side, now there was a growing problem with Apu.

"Twelve days," Mike insisted.

"But..." Apu wrung his hands nervously and looked at the doors, which at the moment weren't bursting open with a flood of holiday shoppers.

"Twelve days. The seasonal aisle is twice as large as normal and fully stocked, and I guarantee you that everyone who wants Christmas paraphernalia will come here and have no trouble finding it. However, we are not going to put decorations up, we are not going to set out displays in the front of the store, and we are not playing Christmas music until the eleventh day before Christmas. There are twelve days of Christmas; we are going to have twelve days of celebration. Our industry cheapens and commercializes the holiday by starting it earlier every damn year, and I am doing something about it. Am I understood?"

"Well, yes, but..."

"12:01 AM December 14th. Mark your calendar."

Apu looked at the doors again and twitched a little.

There were icy patches around Caritas. Mike had already had to go and help Zombie Yoko up once after she'd shuffled over one of them and fallen over. It had not been the most pleasant experience of his life, and he was hoping he wouldn't have to repeat it. But it was hard to tell whether she had every intention of taking his advice and keeping close to the walls tonight.

At least the band were content just staying where they were.

Oh, and Mike had found a box with five dollars in it tucked by the door when he came into work today. He was still examining it once the bar was actually open.
