Cecil was trying not to think about his own problem; he was really good at ignoring things when he had to, though, so he just told himself it probably wasn't a municipally approved topic, and pushed it from his mind.

Which left him at work, in a reasonably warm place, with a large pink bird sunning himself in a patch from the windows.

The ever-present Now Hiring sign was up in the window, along with one that read:

Because everybody got a little homesick sometimes, right?

Ugh. Some days, hauling his ass out of bed to come downstairs for his shift was easy. Other times, Nikolai pretty much had to fall out of his bed literally just to get some inertia going. This was one of those days. So, when he came trudging over to the desk an hour late, hair a mess and clothes dishevelled, he made it a personal mission to ignore any tsk-taking coming from Gunther's direction.

Three was a lot of it.
