Considering her experiences in taverns had been largely confined to drinking or fighting in them, Cara's qualifications for her new job may have been somewhat dubious, but at the very least she'd turned up promptly for her first shift behind the bar.

Of course, anyone who actually wanting equally prompt drinks tonight might find it easier to order directly from Tino, as Cara was likely to just make him to do anything more complicated than opening a bottle anyway.

The park, Friday afternoon

Roland was usually a coffee kind of guy rather than a soda drinker, but he'd take either over any sort of tea, and today, he'd decided to swing by the Quick Stop for his daily caffeine fix instead of the Perk. Only to find them out of coffee. He'd grabbed the first bottle of soda he found instead, and didn't realize until he was getting himself set up for an afternoon of busking that it said "Share a Coke with Rebecca" on the side of it.

He'd gotten pretty good at not missing his old friend too much -- especially now he was living somewhere so chock full of distractions -- but every now and then, the grief still blindsided him. He wondered if she was keeping an eye on him now. He wondered what she and Evan got up to in the Light.

He wondered if the woman she became when her brain damage was reversed would even like him, very much.

"Alright," he said aloud, lifting the bottle in a toast and taking a sip before setting it aside to tune the guitar. "I probably can't actually share the soda, but here's a song for you." He felt like an idiot and an ass. "You know. If you're paying attention."

And he struck up Rebecca's favorite, a folk-style song about the adventures of a unicorn. The sun peeked out from a cloud as he played, warming his shoulders, and he couldn't help but smile. Yeah. Maybe she didn't hate him too much.

Leave it to Johnny Storm to keep himself busy. Class was cancelled earlier, so he took a trip out to DC and actually stopped a guy from trying to rob dinosaur bones from the Smithsonian. Come back and boom, time for a date. He showered, Axed himself up - LIKE YOU'RE SURPRISED BY THAT, you liars - and dressed all nice before making his way to the restaurant for some food and conversation and hopefully palpable sexual tension that could be cut later if he were lucky.

But for now the focus would be on the food and the conversation and, most importantly, the girl.

"I'll be completely honest, I thought this place was for sick horses until two days ago," Johnny noted. Because he could afford to start a date like that. It was self-depricating. It worked.

Okay, Mike had been failing at some of his shifts at the bar lately. But on the plus side, he'd also been earning some more at his various other jobs. And that was great, because he felt like he never had enough money these days. Probably had a lot to do with having a house that still needed a bunch of renovating.

But he wasn't worrying about that right now. He was at Caritas behind the bar, whistling along to whatever the zombie band was playing.
