Date night was a thing that was happening, so a place had been picked more or less at random. And after nearly three years here, it was a place Sia had somehow managed not to go before.

So after they were seated and everything, she said, "I believe this is the first time I've ever eaten anywhere with 'Station' in the name."

[For the date!]

The holidays were definitely over, so Atticus was working on getting the last of the lights and decorations down from outside the building. For the moment, he was pulling the lights from around the door and the places he could reach easily - and swearing up a blue storm that they weren't wrapping up nicely - and wondering if he needed to get a ladder and risk heights when it was cold and icy. Maybe if he left the higher lights up all year, no one would notice? Considering how Fandom liked its holidays, he wouldn't have been surprised if there was a Christmas day in July, and then he'd be ready.

All things considered, as much as Elsa would like to, she knew she couldn't just lock herself in her dorm room and never come out again. For one thing, there were classes, and she had a roommate, and Canute needed space to run and play. She suspected that getting her out more had been a bit of an ulterior motive for Eleanor and Joker to get her a dog, but she wasn't complaining, really. At least, she wouldn't have been, if Anna hadn't arrived.

Beyond that, of course, she had jobs to do. Here at the Magic Box, and also at the library on the weekends, and it wouldn't do for her to miss more work than she already had over the break.

And that was why she was in the Magic Box now, with Canute dozing at her feet, reading books about spirits and sorcery mostly out of curiosity, as one of her teachers this semester seemed to be... well... a ghost sorcerer.

It was surprisingly dry reading, but it was keeping her mind off of her sister, and that's all she really needed it to do today.

"You know," Bright Eyes said, "when I said 'you should invest some time in finding out what being a mayor means', this isn't what I meant."

"Too bad," Tamsin replied, her eyes locked on the computer screen in front of her. "When I said 'no, I don't want to be the mayor', this also isn't what I meant. So now nobody gets what they mean, everyone's miserable."

Bright Eyes let out a sigh and wandered around the desk, putting down her paperwork. "You could visit local businesses," she said, "get to know your people... I mean, Mayor Swanson wasn't big on that, but Mayor Summers always said it was important--"

"And then they both got lost," Tamsin said sweetly. "Not really reliable role models, are they?"

"I just mean--"

Bright Eyes paused. Then stared. Then-- "Is that Sim City 2000?!"

"Yep," Tamsin said, making sure to let that one pop. "Nothing like the classics. Say, how many water pumps have we got around here anyway?"

Okay, so admittedly it probably shouldn't have taken Roland as long as it did to realize he could actually create pockets of heat with his music. Admittedly, he didn't usually try to play at all when it got too cold. Gloves and guitars didn't mix too well. Either way, he was sure as hell enjoying that fact now, as he played a medley of Beach Boys songs and jacked the ambient temperature around him to a balmy 8 degrees (that'd be about 46 to you fahrenheit folks).

Look, he'd just learned this trick. He could only do so much!

Unfortunately, this trick had a side effect of attracting several stray cats to come bask in his warm spot, one of whom had decided to sleep on his foot. He was doing his best not to kick it off, but if it started clawing his jeans, all bets were off.

Stupid cats.

[yessss most definitely open!]

It was a cold, windy day outside -- the perfect day to curl up inside a big sweater and sip at hot cocoa while you paged through a romance novel.

So that was exactly what Alana was doing at work today. Sometimes life really was that simple.
