Next-to-last post, we are NEARLY DONE, but that one is going to wait a couple of hours until I am home from work! NFI, broadcast is fine, OOC is love.)

It had been a long night following a long week and the fog still hadn't lifted. That was disappointing, but it was probably unrealistic to expect that things would be fixed just because Gaunt was in custody.

Jessica was making the whatever-eth pot of coffee since last night and hoping for some kind of news from somebody when a trooper ran out into the station. "Deputy Drew. He's gone."

Well, she didn't need coffee now. "Really gone or invisible?" she asked, rushing over to the cells to see a couple troopers making sure he wasn't hiding in a corner or shrunk or anything.

"Teleported," the trooper answered.

"Okay, you two are with me. Gear up, we're going to the store. You two, patrol and look for anything. Ralph, research what we can do to keep people from teleporting out of our damn jail," Jessica said. "Be ready to move out in three minutes!"

Of course, within those three minutes the fog suddenly lifted. "What does that mean?" one of the troopers asked.

"It means that I hate this guy so much. And other stuff, I'm sure," Jessica said.

The researchers had the message loud and clear from the telepaths: they would find what they were seeking on the Causeway, just past the corner of the parking lot. Over there, near an unusual-looking car, where it had been sitting unperturbed for nearly a month, now.

It was a sapling.

It was tiny, but twisted, and there was an air of malevolence about it. The ground underneath had a dark, unnatural color. The sapling was wrong, evil, even. It certainly shouldn't be here.

Gwen had portaled back today from home. While the trip had been amazing, uh. It was madness hanging out with three teenage boys in one house, and it was good to get back and have a little more space, even if she was going to be checking to make sure Johnny II (as she was calling him to piss him off) or Bobby hadn't claimed her room while she was gone.

She'd gone straight to the Perk for coffee and a pastry for dinner, but when she got there, the baristas had that look of Fandom fatigue, when you're here and doing your job, but you're annoyed that anyone's daring to ask anything of you. So when her order was up, Gwen took her stuff to a corner table, out of their line of sight, and decided to be nice and not ask what she missed.
