Second shift. Still too freaking early; Dante had rolled out of bed, thrown on some clothes, and blearily marched over here with a cup of something that was more sugar than anything else. Whatever weirdness was happening on the island hadn't become obvious to him yet - he hadn't talked to anyone.

Well, he hadn't noticed the weirdness happening to him; the in-store stereo was another thing completely. It didn't matter what CDs he fed into the system, they all came out as something else. Usually depressing stuff. How many times could a guy hear Sia's 'Chandelier' without losing it?

Apparently Dante was about to find out today.

Eventually he stuck his headphones on and put on his phone playlist instead-- which flicked to Skunk Anansie and would not let up.

There was just no winning today.

Thanks to a conversation with Gratuity earlier in the week, Peridot was giving storytelling a try today while she worked. And she was trying it with everybody who came in.

"So after arriving on Earth, this time with a Homeworld warship and a Jasper escort, we faced off against the traitorous clods who had driven us away. The Jasper damaged the fusion severely enough that she exploded-- where are you going?"

On the one hand, Peridot's storytelling (which would be brutally honest no matter what the day) was terrible. On the other hand, people hurrying for the door like that meant that she had plenty more time to work on her own personal projects, instead. Today's task? Trying to build a communications device that could potentially contact Homeworld.

... So that she could send a distress call and get home. Not so that she could tell anybody her stories.

The universe was so loud.

The island needed a break.

It found something, far away. Quiet. Abandoned. But, in its own way, beautiful.

In a single flash, it jumped-- and landed on a quiet rock somewhere in the middle of space. The island found a connection, plugged itself into the electric systems underneath the planetoid, and settled neatly under an artificial atmosphere. Breathable. Nice. It just didn't have a sky, unless you counted its vast, beautiful view of the stars above as one.

There.

Silence.

So Eliot had worked out pretty quick, from the radio broadcast and an attempt to casually threaten Hardison with bodily harm that went -- strange, that today was one of those days. The last time he'd had to deal with this particular sort of those days, he'd confessed to being a hired killer to several people and managed to completely miss Parker trying to tell him that she and Hardison wanted him as their third.

It wasn't his finest hour.

Unfortunately, Val didn't much care if he was incapable of lying today, she still needed to go out and get her exercise. So Eliot took her to the park, resolved to communicate as much as possible in monosyllables and gestures.

And when that didn't work, he'd at least be completely surrounded by exits.
