You know... the Christmas lights that were strung up all around the Demon Marcus this morning were actually kind of pretty? Not that Sparkle much cared, since they were also not doing much for the state of his head today. For starters, he resented the hell out of this time of year. As much as he liked pretty sparkly things (it was right in the name, after all), there was something about well-decorated festive surroundings that almost always made him feel uneasy. Maybe a bit bitter.

Maybe a lot bitter.

But, for another, even though he'd been trying to pace himself last night while out drinking with Seivarden, and even though he was drinking plenty of water today, the extra blinking lights weren't exactly helping with the hangover today, either. What crazy person went to a bar and ordered an entire bottle of whiskey?

Seivarden, apparently.

So, when the lights knocked the power out and left Sparkle sitting, blinking, in the dark, he maybe didn't exactly hurry to go check the breakers, either. Ah. This was nice.

Between the stereo and the holiday lights that were strung up around the place, Jono was pretty certain that Christmas was ganging up on him. Not that he minded terribly. The lights were pretty, and the music that the stereo was picking today was actually not unpleasant. But it all reminded him that maybe he ought to put some effort into spending at least part of the holidays back in Westchester. Help Lee with Shogo, do something nice for the students there who didn't have families to go home to, that sort of thing.

Hell, he was feeling actually almost a little productive today, so he reached for a pen and a piece of paper to start writing a to-do list for the holidays.

And about three points in, the stereo and the lights together knocked the power out.

... Which was an impressive feat in a former theatre building that had been wired to handle intense lighting setups in the first place.

Grumbling, Jono went to turn the power back on, and then got back to his list. He had a feeling that this was pretty much going to be how the rest of his day went, right here.

"Well... this is... bright."

Kanan squinted as he looked around the diner, at the strings of lights that were hung up this way and that. Sure, he'd woken up to much the same at home this morning, but at least with the windows open the lights were a bit less... intrusive... than, say, the kitchen, where the staff had turned out all the other lights in what Kanan assumed was an effort to make the place as festive as possible.

"But not bright enough, guys. You can't run around a kitchen with hot food and knives by just the light of the... those things. Here, let me just--"

The busboy didn't tackle Kanan in time. He flicked the switch, and for a half-second the kitchen was properly lit before they were left standing in complete darkness.

"You're kidding."

The dishwasher shrugged. They'd tried to tell him.

"Okay," Atton said, leaning back - very slightly - on the stepladder to admire his handiwork. "Pure pazaak. I think we're going to stay on this ti--"

All the lights in the bar went out. Again.

"Oh come on!"

He'd get there. Eventually.
