Verity dashed into work with only a minute or so to spare, looking rather worse for wear. Her hair was pulled back into a messy ponytail and she had several bruises and scrapes on her face and arms. She'd managed to shower and change into something work-appropriate, but she hadn't had a chance to brush out her hair or put on concealer and makeup before dashing to the bar.

She rolled her eyes at Tiny ostentatiously glaring at the clock and tapping his wrist. "I just fought a lindworm living under a dumpster," she told him. "I can't even with you right now."

And then she was leaning over the DJ to switch to something loud and uptempo while she spent the evening ignoring Tiny's antics.

Luke's, Monday

Was Eliot still riding a high from his Christmas present from Kathy? Oh yeah. Just a little. It'd been two weeks, but that happy energy wasn't showing a single sign of fading.

The kitchen staff were starting to get creeped out by it.

"Hey," said the dishwasher. "Did you hear? This year's Superbowl is going to be all east coast teams."

"I got some good friends from Boston," Eliot said with a shrug. "It should be a good game."

"Boss!" the cook yelled. "Boss! Boss! The waitstaff's trying to feed the busboy to the polar bears!"

"Don't worry about it," Eliot said. "The polar bears have better taste than that."

The cook and the dishwasher exchanged looks. The dishwasher cleared his throat. "Uh. You know, I hear horse meat is a really --"

"You're fired."

"Oh thank god."
