There was actual, honest-to-god paperwork to be done today. The first in... well, since the evil future people had been here, so about a month. Liam didn't actually mind too much, especially since the paperwork was regarding a new employee.

Ralph, Calvin and the other Troopers were nice enough, but not the best conversationalists, if he was being completely honest. It'd be nice to have someone else around who cared about things other than the state of the station's coffeemaker.

Covent Garden Flowers, Wednesday

Peter came in, went through all the mail and the messages on the phone and e-mail, then got around to looking at Nathan's notes from yesterday.

A teddy bear? He thought about it, and...it could probably be done? He made a note to get together some ideas and pricing, then call the customer back and find out just how big they wanted it and what sorts of flowers, then possibly to call for extra foam.

...sex toys. Okay, that was a new one, though possibly the biggest surprise was that it was a new one. He called that customer back and let them know that if they bought the things, the shop could add them to a bouquet, but Peter wasn't about to buy sex toys in general; that was a bit personal.

When he was done, he put a sign out in front of the store:

Jenkins was feeling a bit more social than usual today, and thus decided to head over to the local bakery for a snack after his class. He ordered himself the largest, most red-filled jelly donut in the shop, in honor of the subjects of this week's zoology lesson, and settled in to enjoy the metaphorically bloody massacre of it (with a napkin tucked into his collar to protect his suit and tie, of course) while watching the street traffic pass the shop by.

There were, of course, any number of reasons why he'd decided to isolate himself for much of the last few hundred years, first and foremost being humanity's terrible habit of dying just when you got to like them, but he had rather missed this part. "People-watching", as it had apparently come to be called, had the potential to provide nearly endless entertainment, especially when you randomly assigned all the passersby torrid affairs.

When Breq arrived the floor was covered with confetti and glitter, with lots of tiny footprints all over it. It looked like someone had had a party there, but the prints were to small even for the tiny blue men, so who it had been, Breq had no idea. She left a note about it to Jono and began to sweep the floor, humming along with the cheerful songs the stereo kept playing today.
