Furnado Animal Shelter, Tuesday
Tuesday, May 15th, 2018 06:37 am"Hi, Mom!" Zack had made a phone call during one of the quiet parts of his shift today. "How are things in Konoha? Oh yeah? And Dad's settling in there fine too? How about Cloud? Really? Wasn't that the medic who met us through the portal? Yeah, yeah that is cute, I- Yeah? Yeah. No, I know, Mom. I was actually calling to tell you-- hm? Sure, sure, I'd love you to send some cookies along. Yeah, for Ino too. I haven't had your cookies in forever, it's good to know you're still making them. Nah, I don't mind if the ingredients are different than I'm used to, Mom. You're in a different world, that sort of thing happens. No, Mom, we don't have gysahl greens here, either. Well, I can't eat them if we don't have them, you know? There are other greens instead. Yeah. I promise I eat my greens, Mom. I'm a vegetarian. Since years ago, yeah. But I was really calling to say-- Hm? Oh, yeah, I'm definitely getting enough exercise. I get walks all the time now. We have a dog. Her name is Girl, I'll send you a picture, she's really pretty. But that's not what I was calling you abou-- I mean, you can call her your grandpuppy if you want to? I doubt Girl will mind. No, you don't have grandkids yet, one thing at a time. Which brings me to what I wanted to tell you?"
Zack was silent for a few minutes while his mother rambled on about how she and his father were getting on in years, and he was their only son, and they would be perfectly welcome to visit even with just the grandpuppy if they wanted, they'd love to meet Girl, and-- He cut her off.
"Ino and I are getting married."
There were a few moments of silence from the other end of the line, and then his mother let loose with a gleeful sound that left one of Zack's ears ringing and caused a dozing cat to startle and scramble across the room, toppling a cage with finches in it and causing a tower of kibble bags to come crashing to the ground.
"Of course you're invited," Zack continued, and now he was trying to balance the phone between his shoulder and his ear while he ran around attempting to round up a dozen tiny birds before they could hurt themselves, his feet sliding on dog food. "Yeah, we haven't even set a date yet..."
It was going to be that sort of day, huh?
