Miguel was almost afraid of what he might find this week when he got to work, but apparently it was nothing worse than the staff deciding that summer was Officially Here and the menu should reflect that. Which for once was just normal, summery foods.

It did mean the only coffee they had made already was iced, though.

Miguel headed for the coffee machine determinedly. "No. I still need coffee, and I'm probably not the only one."

"But it's hot out!" the busboy protested.

"It'll be hotter if I have to go to the Perk and get a cup just to dump over your head."

After that, they backed off, even if there was a bit of eye-rolling.

Astrid didn't even like coffee, but here she was, at the coffee shop, because it seemed like the sort of thing to do in a quaint, European-style village on an island, reading one of the many books on her reading list. She wasn't doing much actual reading, though, distracted as she was with people watching. She had to carefully count out coins she'd found on the sidewalks and in the grass on the way here, dropped, deposited, forgotten, to pay for the cup; she sketched the exasperated face of the harried barista and her irritated customers on extra napkins, not wanting to waste precious real estate in her quickly-filled sketchbooks. Was this what it was like for her mother, before she came around, paying for coffee in found change? At least Astrid didn't have to worry about a place to sleep or food to eat, paying for a couch with a poem or a smile, swiping food when no one was looking...

Maybe she should get a job or something. But who would hire a fourteen year old kid with no experience and bad grades? She didn't want to ask her mother, either, and she was pretty sure that wouldn't do any good, anyway. She pushed a few nickels around the table a little, frowning a little, wondering how long it would take to scavenge enough to buy a new sketchbook. Too bad there wasn't any tourism here, she could sell her drawings on a corner or something like that.

Maybe if she hadn't dropped more than two whole bucks on just a small coffee, too. Since when had coffee been so expensive, anyway?

The flower shop had turned into a jungle. Overnight the plants had grown into monstrous sizes, filling up the whole place, and forcing Seivarden to struggle to reach the counter. She contemplated cutting them down but decided not to, as she felt that should be Peter's decision, and also because they might very well have returned to normal by tomorrow.

Instead she made tea, which probably wasn't a surprise to anyone.

[Open, if you can get past the plants.]

Breq had asked for a day off on Wednesday, so instead she opened Groovy Tunes this morning. As soon as she arrived, she turned on the stereo, curious how it would surprise her today.

It did surprise her. All day it kept playing songs from her own collection, the one stored in her memory, as if they had been recorded when she had heard them. She didn't notice, but she sat there crying most of the time.

The raven was back when Kaidan went downstairs to open the shop. "Welcome back," he said politely, holding the door for it. The raven perched on the counter and carefully deposited an entangled mass of earbuds, quoking imperiously. "Did you just want these untangled, or are they broken?" The raven tilted its head at him, peering at him with one bright black eye. It didn't deign to answer. "Right. Untangle first, inspect after."

He set about doing that, in between customers. Business had picked up on Friday night, and Saturday was off to a good start. Around noon, it slowed, so he checked in with his customers to see if they needed anything from the cafe. Tossing an almost joking comment to the raven, "Hold down the fort while I grab lunch," he ducked out to grab some caffeine.

Returning, he distributed the goods to their recipients and went back to work on the headphones.

Description of shop.

Open: Sat-Sun, 9am-midnight
