So Astrid had gotten her very first gremlin bite. In a way, it felt almost like a rite of passage...for something that she had absolutely no desire to be a part of. Overall, she supposed she should be grateful. It could have gone much worse and she'd only embarrassed herself in front of two people (Sabine didn't count, Sabine obviously understood, and she hoped Sabine wouldn't give her crap about it), and besides avoiding eye contact with the girl she'd sang to in cooking class (and, really, she avoided eye contact with most people anyway), it seemed she might actually be able to put it behind her.

Until she got to work.

The ballerina orchids were back, but instead of just dancing across the counter, they were also singing.

And so were the tigerlilies. And the oleanders. Even the decorative grasses.

"Shut up!" Astrid shouted at them eventually, though it didn't do much good. "How do you even know that song?"

It got to a point where she had to leave the store to run to Turtle & Canary for a pair of earplugs before she could get back to work.

Summer was at the counter with her laptop, making sure she'd successfully transferred some of the things from the computer in the back office, since she didn't like the idea of having to hole herself up back there if she wanted to work on some stuff. This was what it was all about, being there front and center to meet and greet and offer excellent customer service and all that crap, really put a face to the business. Of course, she was pretty sure that Amaya had only touched the computer in the back once in a blue moon, so most of the stuff she needed to transfer where actually written ledgers and accounts, very neatly written, she'd give Amaya that, but, come on, woman, get out of the Stone Age already.

And since she was so busy getting all her stuff in order, she barely noticed what was going on until Apu was already halfway into it when she looked up and blinked. "Uh, Apu?" she asked, marveling a little at the elaborate display that seemed to have sprung up out of nowhere. "What's that?"

"Didn't you know?" he asked. "It's Bow Tie Day."

"That is a made-up holiday," Summer stated after a moment, "that you just totally made up."

"I assure you, Miss Summer, it is not."

Summer was feeling pretty doubtful about that, but, since he really had done a pretty good job of putting together that giant Christmas-tree like display of more bowties than she'd have ever imagined they'd had in stock, she wasn't going to press the issue, and got to work on a sign.

Welcome to Turtle & Canary!
50% off all bow ties...I guess.

"Okay, guys," Zack said, addressing the shelter at large as he walked in for his shift today. "I have a very important mission for all of you!"

The animals all continued doing whatever it was they were doing.

"I need some volunteers for my first class on Thursday! Who here can make a good first impression, huh?"

A kitten ate some food. A hamster yawned.

"... Yeah, you're right. It should probably be puppies."

If this was how Zack was going to run his classes all semester, it was going to be puppies a lot.

Norman walked into the Magic Box, not entirely certain what to expect. Between the shop's occasional shenanigans and the fact that Bob was kind of using this place as his own personal haunt, pretty much anything could be going on in there, after all.

Mostly what Norman found were some books that had been labelled according to their usefulness, which meant that his morning was spent sorting them according to those labels, actually setting the decent ones to the side so that he could flip through them and see if any of the theory would do him any good.

The ones that Bob had marked as 'utter trash' were being set aside, too. Entirely because Norman wanted to see if he could buck any stupid ideas about magic after flipping through them.

They were all still on display in case customers came in wanting to pick up actual educational material or a stupid hobby that wouldn't actually lead to anything, because he was running a business here. But it was possible that the ones that Bob had marked simply as 'amusing' were out front and center for a bit, at least until Norman could take a peek at the other two categories for himself.

It was the first week with the new people, so Kitty was trying to make a good impression at the bar.

50% FOR NEW PEOPLE

She had also put a kibash on the country music, and it was disturbing, but this may be what zombies looked like when they sulked.

One still wore a cowboy hat, though.

Peter stood up front and gave a little wave. "Welcome back everyone from before, and welcome new people. We're going to keep watching modern Earth entertainment so we can hopefully figure out a bit more about modern culture. Or remember it. Or just have a fun time and eat some popcorn."

He waved at the table to one side, which had plenty of popcorn, chips, and soda.

"Tonight we're watching one of the biggest recent movies, called meta for Black Panther. I hope everybody enjoys it."

Raven might not be much affected by changes in temperature, but she still noticed humidity, and last night had been downright steamy. So when she was flipping through ideas for her holosuite theme for the day and stumbled across an arctic expedition option, she jumped right on it.

Other people had to be a little tired of summer by now, too, right?

The Holo-Scene lobby was downright nippy today, with the cold coming out the open door of Holosuite One, while Raven poked away at the controls to see if she could add any ice age giants to the current population of holographic polar bears, walruses, and caribou.

Ooo, wooly rhinos!

Today had been a pretty decent day, for Vette. She'd gotten dismissed from her one class today early, had gotten a decent exchange rate on the credits she had with her, and was absolutely feeling up to exploring the town to see what she was in for.

... It hadn't taken long. After spending any amount of time on Nar Shaddaa, being able to just walk for five minutes and find a clear edge to the town was novel. It wasn't long before she ended up at the Perk, and it hadn't taken her long at all from there to order the biggest, most absurd looking pastry she could find and a drink to go with it.

She had no idea what a 'pumpkin spice' was, but she liked spicy foods, and so sure, she was game.

She was still smiling as she found herself a window seat. Sure, the population of the island was largely human. That took some getting used to. But at least people watching promised to be interesting regardless.
