Although Astrid greatly appreciated the Haydn that was trumpeting out of the daffodils with the bluebells ringing an accompaniment today, she was spending most of her shift at the flower shop that day staring down at a mostly blank piece of lined paper. She'd already scribbled down Hi, Mom for a greeting, and that's where she stopped, because she wasn't sure exactly what to write to her mother this week. Did she be truthful and reveal what she found out? What would Ingrid even think of that? She'd probably assume Astrid was on drugs, or that she was attempting to be creative, which would lead to the inevitable refrain of how disappointed she was in Astrid's faulty imagination.

So she wouldn't even bother, she concluded, and eventually got to writing: Last week, a friend invited me to go with her and some other kids to D.C. Unsurprising, I spent most of my time in the National Gallery, getting to see Van Gogh's self-portrait in person was amazing, much better than that hefty disappointment this is realizing the Mona Lisa at the Lourve is not only so unimaginably small but guarded by a sea of gawking tourists...

Feeling a small bit of rebelliousness, she decided to add The flowers are making wonderful music today toward the end, just to see what Ingrid would make of it, but she'd be willing to bet that she'd barely pay attention enough to notice.

Prompto could still hardly believe it that this was going to be his job. He was going to get paid to be here and...'familiarize' himself with all the video games and tinker around at the machines, and play games all day...well, not all day, during the slow times, Kaidan had said, but considering the shop hadn't even been open on Tuesdays before, and it was Tuesday, just how busy could it get?

That big, slightly scary bird didn't even try to chase him out of the shop like he was half expecting it to, either! Bonus!

He tried to expend some of the nervous, excited energy he was feeling in taking care of the few things he knew needed to be done first, making sure to cover all those responsibility bases before flailing slightly about where to even start with all these new and shiny games. Clearly, he'd have to just do a sampling today, maybe dip into each one a little to get a vague feel...

....and ended up staying on the first game he chose, which was a racing game, but he didn't actually get to any racing. He'd spent so much time dicking around in with customizing his car that, by the time he'd put the final touches on it, he realized it was already time to close up.

Whatever, it was worth it. That car looked sweet as hell.

[[Open! and, yes, that my current actual car in FF XV right now, and I love it. judge away]]

It looked like the nonsense books that Bob had been mocking on Sunday had had a bit of a conference with the actual, legitimate magic books. Which was a phrase that Norman had never in his life figured he'd need to consider, but here he was, watching them all huddled around their chalk pentagram on the floor, seeming to marvel in silence at the... demon?... that they'd summoned.

If it could even be called that. It was more like a tiny pink blob, no bigger than Norman's fist, with a pair of eyes and a mouth. It looked as if somebody had crossed Jell-O with a Hershey's Kiss with a big pile of regret. It just sat there where it was summoned, and burbled and cooed and made happy little bubbling noises every time Norman looked at it.

"... Guys, it's adorable, but you need to send that thing back."

The leaflike rustling of the books' pages sounded outright heartbroken.

Norman didn't care.

Kitty was still a little annoyed about getting woken up way too early this morning by squirrels, which was why they were maybe keeping a safe distance. Or maybe it had something to do with the glares she sent every time she spotted one.

She'd be lying if she said it didn't make her feel better, really.

[Home today, entertain meeeee.]

As usual, Zack was in a pretty great mood at the shelter today. The kittens and the puppies were all playful and everyone seemed to be in good health.

... Well, almost everyone. Mr. Winkles, the gerbil who was parked in the hamster habitat on the counter, seemed to be just about as cranky as he ever was. Which was saying an awful lot for a small rodent who had on occasion attempted to drop bricks on Ino's head.

So Zack's attention today was going to be spent trying to get Mr. Winkles out of whatever funk he was in this time, feeding him niblets of corn, giving him extra bedding material, even pulling him out of his little enclosure and letting him run around the floor in a hamster ball.

So, if you came into the shelter today, beware. Three ounces of pure evil were on the prowl, rolling around the floor in the most sinister way his tiny little grabby feets could manage.

Today's food was set out, along with sodas and a spot for Kaidan's inevitable tea. There were also a decent-sized stack of burgers and fries from Mooby's, which were Peter's attempt to be thematic.

"Welcome again." He waved everybody toward the food. "I've gone with something that's hopefully appropriate. Today we'll be watching a film that was pretty popular and important about forty years ago. It's not without some problematic parts, but hopefully there's enough good to enjoy, and so long as you keep the things you throw at the screen down to non-harmful ones," throw popcorn, not burgers, people, "it's all good."

He glanced toward Amaya if she was there. "There's more singing and romance in it, but there's also some car building and maintenance and things, so hopefully it won't be too dull."

Raven had an actual reservation today. Someone had contacted her and asked to reserve Holosuite Two for several hours. Sure, she'd had customers before, but somehow, this made it all feel that much more like a legitimate business.

Hey, maybe she could do this whole being a grown up adult type human person thing after all!

Special today: space invaders!
Command your own starship to defeat an alien menace! Use diplomacy — or torpedoes! Or both!
It's all up to you!

Raven finished setting up Holosuite One in a hurry, then turned back to the specs for Holosuite Two. This was going to be fun.

The Holo-Scene was open.

Mitsutada was a little gloomy today, still bothered by comments that Kanesada had made during his class last Friday. Not only had his guest offended one of the students, he'd questioned Mitsutada's entire existence in Fandom.

It was not fun thoughts to dwell on. At least the visitor for this week would be far more kind.

It had been an entire week of Mondays and it was only Wednesday. Kaidan's brain had shut down and he barely had the brainpower to string to coherent words together. He had to redo the shop hours anyway so he just closed up for the day and headed out for a beach day.

Then he saw the sky. Throwing the ominous clouds a glare like they had personally betrayed him, insulted his mother, and stolen his cookies, he did an about-face and headed to the Onsen instead.

He dumped his stuff in a locker, sluiced off quickly and headed into the soak pools. Dumping the larger towel on a bench with his phone, he carried the smaller towel with him as he slid into the water. Dunking it, Kaidan leaned back against the rock and plopped the towel over his eyes.

Tension left, soothed by the heat of the water. It was as close to a nice, warm, sensory deprivation tank as he could get. He soaked and let his brain run its background processes in the silence. Part of him wondered if anything would go critical today. If it did, it could frickin' wait until he was done turning himself into a two-meter prune.
