Well, it was a good thing Summer came into the store today to check on orders, because what she found from last week was a goddamn mess.

"That's it?" she said, blinking at the tiny piles of POs and looking at Apu almost incredulously. "This is all he ordered?? I mean, good job on the glitter, I guess, but seriously? There are new students coming in next week, and this is all he ordered? Are you sure he's run this store before? How did you guys even stay in business??"

Which just meant that Apu was just filled with I told you sos and Now you see what I was talking abouts and Summer just sighed and took a deep breath and resigned herself to the fact that she was probably going to be stuck putting in a crap ton of expediated orders so that they weren't scrambling to have what they needed once the new kids all came rushing in.

While also fending off Apu's appeals to convince her to maybe change her mind and not go into space and leave him with that man after all.

"I am definitely still going," she insisted, "and that's final, but..." She sighed. "If anything, I'll talk to Amaya before I go. She did a good job with this place before I bought it, right? And you know she's always willing to help, but don't, like, go dragging her into this too much! She's got her own shit, too, you know!"

With the look Apu gave her, Summer started to wonder if she should go talk to Chopper about keeping a bit of an extra eye on her ship, should someone think it was a good idea to play the sabatour.

So, things really were back to normal, huh? Norman was still kind of tentatively hopeful that this would stick, making his way in to work and--

-- Immediately being bowled over by a three-headed dog, who had grown somewhat over the course of the summer. Norman laughed, trying to shove the pup(s?) off of himself in between a triple-face-lick-attack, and eventually managed to get himself somewhat free enough to reach for a stray tennis ball and throw it into the back room, freeing himself for the time being.

Yup, back to normal.

As normal as it ever got around here, anyway.

The Magic Box was open, beware of dog(s).

"Oh no."

The summer had been a lot of things! Hectic, for sure. Random? Definitely.

Great for checking the chicken coop on the roof for eggs?

... Nope.

And so, instead of the regular puppy pen setup today, there was one with heat lamps and straw and what felt like ten million fluffy chirping baby chicks, all running about and tripping over one another and peep-peep-peeping to their downy hearts' content.

"Please," Zack pleaded to the vet, "please tell me there's a farm somewhere on the mainland that wants to take them?"

Furnado was open. How did you feel about chickens?

The gremlin-driven tiny dog sleds were gone this week, replaced by . . . gremlins on tiny Segways with pouches of letters strapped to their backs, apparently. And that was perfectly all right with Éponine, who had been mildly unsettled by the dog sleds by the end of last week (how were they getting around so easily without any snow?) anyhow, and concerned about the tiny dogs.

It was giving her ideas, though, about how she ought to look into some sort of transportation for herself if she wanted to be able to make a viable side business out of doing food deliveries from off-island. Maybe a motorbike of some kind?

That was certainly something to think about as she went out on her delivery route, anyhow. Perhaps she was going to be thinking about it a little too much, because her initial idea had been some sort of electric bicycle, and now it was getting overly ambitious . . .

The flamingos today were clamoring for food when Hannibal arrived, and he gave them all a very stern look before heading into the house, getting the shrimp-and-algae mixture they liked, and setting it out for them.

What? They might be spoiled, but they were a very good alarm and defense system.

It meant that anybody on the way to his office got an eyeful of pink bird, but there were surely worse views. As long as none of the things wandered in for its own therapy; he didn't speak flamingo.

Kitty was here without Lexi today. Which meant poor Clint was going to have to deal with repeated texts checking in.

It was fine! Totally no trauma here. Everything was fine!

Anyway she was working when she wasn't texting. Maybe Dems ding photo evidence.

Talking to Prompto yesterday had reminded Mae that she hadn't been out to visit her weird abandoned holographic arcade in awhile. It also got her thinking about how a weird, abandoned, holographic arcade could maybe be improved with a little judicious application of teenage ingenuity. And the internet.

"Okay okay okay," she said, flapping her hand at the disembodied computer voice. "I know, I get it, you're like super advanced and can understand seventy billion languages thanks to being hooked into Google Translate or whatever."

"Every holosuite is equipped with a universal translator," the computer said. It didn't have any inflection, but Mae decided it was faintly insulted anyway. "Regional accents do not affect holosuite programming."

"Yeah yeah," Mae said. "But it's so much funnier if you can't understand. Like, say I was all 'this bridge isn't right, I want something from the rust belt, not a zombie apocalypse!' Then you could go 'opening program: Zombie Apocalypse'."

"There are 3,756,842 programs available tagged 'zombie apocalypse'."

"See?" Mae beamed. "Now you're getting it!"

"You have specified parameter: 'not a zombie apocalypse'. 3,756,842 program options have been filtered out."

". . . You are not getting it at all."
