"Dude . . . really?"

Beau had just gotten to work, and she already had to stop, dig one hand into her hair, and stare in disbelief. It was the start of a new school year, she understood that, and maybe some businesses would have a theme about that going on, but here? Really?

Because her parkour course now looked like it was made out of weirdly oversized school supplies. Platforms and stacks of padding were now giant erasers and stacks of notebooks or sticky notes, pipe and railing segments were pencils (unsharpened, luckily) and rulers, and okay, she had to admit the wire spiral binding on the notebooks that were doing vertical wall duty today might add an interesting element to the climbing segments, but really?

Everything else looked normal enough today, luckily, and after doing her equipment-check rounds Beau went to do the part of her morning workout that she hadn't gotten done before she got here, which was to say the approximately-five-million-pullups part.

Which wasn't to say she wouldn't stop and help you if you happened to need help, but she might give you a hard time about it. Just because.

[OOC: Gym/post open, and I'll be in and out today so expect patches of SP.]

There were a lot of things Rosa could probably be doing at the station that day. She could be doing her radio reports, for one, and tagging all the new people. She could be fielding some of those phone calls that she just kept sending over to Calvin. She could be refilling all the papers that had been thrown out of the filing cabinet when the raccoon that had brought in that weekend for drunk and disorderly conduct had somehow manage to get in there and decided to just confetti the room with whatever old reports were in there.

She could be doing some of that stuff.

But there was a new Crimson Portal book out that she'd finally gotten her hands on, so she was just going to do that instead.

Oh, and maybe send out one email to Kincaid proposing they made it illegal for anyone around here to complain about being bored. Ralph.

After about the third time she countered his complaints with a made-up order to go check-in on Bee Lady, he mostly stopped. He still complained to the other troopers about it under his breath, and it amazed her how none of them realized that whispering didn't really work very well with voice-modulated helmets.

Never one to want to miss out on an opportunity for some good business, Amaya had spent most of her Sunday working on some fancy new wood-and-metal signs for the shop.

One was to hang in the big, open window looking into the shop from the street: Two for One Dagger Deal! Don't Forget to Stock Up for the School Year!

And the other was a sandwich board to place just outside the shop that read the same on both sides: Back to School Special! Discounted prices on Sharpening! Touch-Ups! Rust-Removal! Upgrades! Spikes! Anything to make your fine weapons even better!

She was pretty proud of the both of them, and would be even prouder if they managed to bring anyone in, propping the door open to get some fresh air in, while she decided to spend the time in between her hopefully potential customers polishing up all those daggers Fjord managed to churn out the other day and getting them good and hilted up and ready for a new home, probably tucked away in someone's belt or boot or jacket sleeve.

Sort of warmed the heart, really.

The Forge is open!

It was a damn good thing that Summer had most of her affairs in order for the move out to space right now, because Apu seemed determined to seize ever single free moment she had and badger her into doing something for the store before she left. In a way, she really couldn't blame him, and she had to admit that it was a hella nice boost to her confidence that he was so desperate about her leaving him to the sake-scented whims of his new boss, but, also, like, geez, man, back off a little, okay? He was just going to have to get used to it, but, fine, fine, whatever. She'll do what she could while she was still here, and since she wasn't teaching anymore and she didn't even have any more work to do on her ship, it wouldn't hurt to just keep busy.

So that meant, of course, taking care of ordering, but also hiring.

And regretting not having had the chance to talk to Janet about making some signs for this week.

Because there was a bit of a clusterfuck going on in the window today.

Peter smiled and waved at everybody as they came in.

"Welcome to Modern Earth Entertainment. If you haven't been here before, this 'class' is about catching up on a lot of movies - moving picture entertainments - that have been popular. We might watch some TV or play some games, too, but so far it's all been movies. They've been around for about a hundred years, so there are plenty of them. People from local Earth might refer to them, and they can show you a lot about Earth, so it seemed like a good way to figure things out.

"My name's Peter Octavian, by the way. I started this because movie nights are fun and I was a bit behind the times - my world's at least a decade behind this one, and I was...somewhere else...for a long time anyway. If there's anything you'd like to see or hate to see, let me know and I'll see what I can do, at least when the equipment is cooperating. There are chips and popcorn and sodas," he waved at the table, "to eat and drink and possibly throw at the screen, but keep in mind we do still have to clean the place up."

He readied the DVD player. "Since Fandom is all about other worlds and other versions of things, I thought we'd start with a movie from last year that's about that, too. Maybe it'll help with the concept if you're having trouble with it. This one's animated - drawn pictures - instead of live acting."

He pushed play. "Enjoy!"

Eventually, Shunsui actually got up that day and felt a small pang of maybe going and doing something productive, which was a rare and strange thing as it was, but it was also Monday, and he knew Summer-chan would be handling the store today, and he really didn't want to bother with any of that, anyway, so he figured what he would do is grab some paper and a pen and his biggest sake bottle and head on over to the Perk to get some...erm, work done, he supposed.

He was here to write a book, after all. And that's what writers did, didn't they? They went to coffee shops, and that's where they wrote! It was worth a try.

He wasn't a big fan of coffee, so he brought his own drink and, just to be festive, did buy a small cup of pumpkin spice flavoring, which he was experimentally and occassionally pouring into his small cups of sake.

It wasn't...terrible.

But Shunsui was not typically picky, as long as sake was involved.

And then he got to work.

He set out his papers, spent a ridiculous amount of time organizing his stuff around the table so it was just right, and then set his pen to the paper for that first, stirring line:

Chapter One, he wrote.

Beautiful. Perfect!

No. Wait.

He leaned in and crossed it out.

Prologue, he wrote instead.

Much better! And he beamed and poured a little sake, a little pumpkin spice, into his cup and took a well-deserved sip for all the great hard work he had already accomplished.

[[ even though I'm about to plunge into work-related SP, I realized that Shunsui's the only one of my pups on-island not actively involved any anything and, while that totally make sense, it makes me twtichy, lol, idk, so here, have a perk! Which is so definitely open for all your perkly needs! ]]

Yes, it had been a couple of weeks since everything went back to normal, but weeks upon weeks of things like half the island being underwater, or otherwise inaccessible, or simply gone meant that Éponine was still working her way through a backlog of deliveries that had been downright impossible to make for one reason or another.

There were also parcels and even trays of letters surfacing (not literally) that had, as best she could tell, gone into hiding for the duration of the summer, which was a perfectly understandable thing to do, if you asked her.

In any case, it was quite a lot of backlog she had yet to make any significant progress with, and she'd be industriously whittling away at it all day.

[OOC: Post office/post open, though it is gonna be Hell Week at work so SP is super going to be a thing.]
