Trooper Station; Monday [10/21].
Monday, October 21st, 2019 05:46 amOkay, the whole candy corn rain on Saturday had been cute if it was the island trying to work itself up into a Halloween mood like it did for Christmas, but this whole fake blood coffee thing (real blood did not look like that!) was crossing a line. You just didn't mess with people's coffee; this was almost as bad as the whole thing with pumpkin spice and the Perk. At least Rosa could still caffeinate with some hot leaf water, but come on. Everyone knew that hot leaf water couldn't even begin to compare to coffee...
Thankfully, the troopers were providing an interesting enough distraction for Rosa, which came with an interesting revelation. Because, despite the current state of the coffee, they continued to actually brew themselves pots of it, and pour themselves mugs, carrying them around as they went about their business. She was a little astonished that they could still drink that stuff when it was basically just corn syrup (although, really, was that any worse than what came out of the pot when Ralph made it?), until she realized....they never actually drank it. She realized, in that moment, that she'd always watched them make coffee, pour themselves cups, walk around with those cups and keep them on their desks, but they never actually drank it. After all, how could they, with those helmets on? They just went through the motions, as if they only did it because they were expect to, like it was just another part of the job.
If anything, her fascination with this revelation and going back and trying to think of other weird 'just pretending to be normal' behaviors that the troopers exhibited provided a good distraction for the fact that every sip she took from her mug of hot leaf water was just filled with disappointment and resentment.
