seriesofbaddecisions: (suspicious)

Sabine had a weird feeling she was being watched, and every once in a while she'd get a glimpse of greasepaint, but she never saw anything directly. At first it was just a little weird, but the longer she'd shift went on, the more uneasy she became.

She was sticking it out because it was possible this was just her imagination, but she wasn't getting much work done today.

And she was both glad and worried to be in a shop full of weapons.

Duke had stopped in for what he'd hoped would be a perfectly ordinary (if probably pumpkin-spiced) coffee this afternoon. The coffee itself was fine, not even egregiously flavored. The vague glimpse of something moving in the storm drain out of the corner of his eye when he went to find a seat outside was . . . less fine. He sipped his coffee, pretending to be engrossed by something on his phone, and tried to study the thing without letting it know he knew it was there.

It was pale white. And bright red. And . . . wearing a ruffled collar?

Unable to entirely believe what he was pretty sure he was seeing, he gave in and gave the drain a direct look -- and found it to be a perfectly ordinary, dark, somewhat slimy looking storm drain.

He shrugged and went back to his coffee and his phone -- only to catch sight of the thing again. But when he looked back, it was gone.

"Sure," he said to the sky, resigned. "Because why wouldn't Fandom have creepy clowns living in the sewers?"

[Because what else are you going to do with creepy clowns when your character is from a Stephen King canon? Open!]

The Halloween-themed orders were back in full force, this week, along with a few more generally fall-themed ones. Octavia welcomed the opportunity to focus on them. Yesterday had been easier than the day before it, but she still felt restless and unsettled somehow, and she was trying to bury that in forcing all of her concentration into putting together ridiculous things filled with red and orange and black flowers and dried maple leaves and who knows what else.

(And yes, she'd set a few of the small decorative pumpkins aside for Magnus, despite yesterday. These were ones he'd at least get to keep longer than a day.)

It was still pretty early in the morning when she realized someone was staring at her through the window. The form of someone standing outside was easy to make out even in her peripheral vision when they were wearing such bright clothes and - white face paint?

And of course, when she turned to look at whoever the hell it was - there was no one there.

Yeah, this wasn't going to be an okay day, either.
