Kitty loved the smiling polar bears that gave out Coke. The problem was, now she had a lot of Coke at home.

Apparently Tino loved the bears too, because there was also a lot of Coke at the bar.

"Oh no, this all backfired," Kitty realized.

Mind you, it wasn't that Éponine wished the polar bears weren't here -- as if she'd ever turn down nice fizzy free beverages? But she did have a job to do, and it was ramping up to that time of year when she'd be busiest, and they kept on offering her drinks and hugs, which was very nice and all but took time out of her day and --

All right, so she didn't much mind the hugs. Those, she wouldn't say no to, now. But all her attempts to persuade the bears to at least carry a full tray of letters or restock the mailing supplies because they were out of large padded envelopes or otherwise help her for a few minutes amounted to nothing. She supposed she couldn't mind too much, since every time she asked them to help she got another bottle of soda or another hug, but ...

Ah, well. Only so much she could do about that then, right? At least they were being pleasant, unlike some NPC customers. She'd take as many of those kinds of encounters as she could get, the closer it got to Christmas.

The occasional snow flurry that came out of the mailboxes was accompanied by jingle bells -- and by 'jingle,' it also meant that some people might recognize the tune they played as one associated with ads for today's free drinks.

The polar bears certainly seemed to approve, anyway.

[OOC: Post office/post open! SP still definitely in effect today, though.]

There was a polar bear on the beach.

Duke had been warned about the polar bears, but he'd also grown up close enough to the wilderness to know to be extremely wary of megafauna sharing his space without a trained handler on hand, and right now it was just him, the beach, and the polar bear wearing a jaunty red scarf, sitting on the sand and watching the water.

"Sure," Duke muttered. "This is definitely cute and not at all terrifying. Good call, Kitty."

The bear turned when it heard him, and Duke froze in place, trying to remember what you were supposed to do if you met a bear. The answer was definitely not "run", no matter how much his legs really, really wanted the answer to be "run". He was pretty sure he was supposed to make himself look big and yell at the bear? But that was very hard to do when your legs were busy screaming at you to run, goddammit!

The polar bear, unperturbed, trundled over with a little closed-mouth smile and pulled Duke into a firm, gentle, warm and soft and fuzzy hug.

"Oh my god," Duke whispered. He was receiving a bear hug. From an actual bear.

It was quite possibly the best hug he had ever had.

The polar bear let him go, handed him a frosty bottle of coke, gave him a gentle pat on the head that nearly knocked him over, and dropped to all fours to wander off down the beach again.

Duke stood where he was, staring into the middle distance, his hair mussed, coke bottle in hand.

"Oh my god." He took an absent sip of coke as his brain caught up on what had just happened, then turned to watch the bear wander away. "You don't want to stay for yoga?!"

The bear huffed a little polar bear laugh and waved without turning. Then disappeared around the bend.

[beach yoga is open!]

There was always that one moment in your vacation where the whole affair began to get a bit dull and your own thoughts encroached on it entirely too much. And then you wanted a change.

Lucifer was there. Well, specifically, he was sitting behind the piano with his sleeves rolled up and a cigarette poking out of his mouth, playing something a bit more contemporary than some of his recent performances. It wasn't an obvious choice for his first singing performance, no, but it communicated his need for a change of emotional scenery quite well, he felt.

"Off with your head. Dance 'till you're dead. Heads will roll, heads will roll on the floor..."

The Devil's Nest was open.
