"'Morning, class," Amaya, all by her lonesome today, greeted the students with a nod and a grin as they gathered in the danger shop, this time in a good, spacious clearing surrounded by thick, tall trees. If you listened closely, somewhere, faintly in the distance, it might even sound like you could hear someone singing. But Amaya certainly wouldn't be paying that any mind; her attention was all going to the table in front of her, and the usual wide variety of topical weapons spread out for display and discussion today. "Welcome back. I hope you're feeling limber and ready to work those arms, because today, we're talking about something that's caused a bit of a buzz lately on account of the range at the Devil's Nest, and that's axes!

AXE and ye shall receive! )

With that, Amaya concluded her ramble lecture and turned a faint grin to the students. "Are there any questions? If not, I'll turn it over to you guys. Grab an axe and let's get hacking!"

Wayne certainly didn't want to let the pups at the shelter get any softer than they'd gotten under Prompto's very lackadaisical care, but he did feel a bit bad about missing out on spending time with them last week on account of his pigeon wounds, so he wanted to make it up to them. Which meant extra playtime and extra treats that day.

But not....too much extra. He would hate to go back on all the progress he'd made with introducting them to some proper discipline and care he'd been establishing since he took up the job.

And they did make it incredibly easy to loosen up those reins a bit, didn't they?

Furnado is open!

Although no one could really have too much of axes in any given day, Amaya was taking a little bit of a break from the axes she was putting together for Eric (she'd made incredible progress so far, though, whole stacks of heads waiting to be sharpened and refined, absolute piles of handles waiting to be finished and attached), and so she was getting started on that rapier for Magnus, enjoying in particular the process of getting that nice solid lenght of steel all beaten down into that nice whispy little stinger. The motions of it were almost second nature, like breathing, so that, as she pounded away at the anvil, as she shoved it into the forge to let it heat up again to make it more supple before beating it down again, she thought about what sort of hilt to put on it (she didn't know Magnus very well yet, but she had a feeling he'd be more than happy with something simple and functional, but would also love something a bit more fancy and fussy), and also considered which of her ever-growing colleciton of materia (all thanks to her patent-pending Materia Incubator!) to enhance it with.

And then, of course, there were all the various pieces of the Secret Project she was working on for Seivarden, the one not even she knew about, scattered here and there, waiting to be shined up maybe a little bit more before she welded them all together, but paying jobs came first. And, honestly, just the fact that she finally had enough to keep her busy that she had to prioritize was just about one of the best feelings in the entire world, going hand-in-hand with the sweat rolling down her back, the ache already setting into her arms that would fully arrive by the end of the day, and that powerful music of the roaring forge accented with her hammer on steel.

This was what it was all about!

The Forge is open!

Jaina had showed up yesterday just to check in on things and ended up getting called on to get gross. Today she was not gross, and just trying to get some coffee.

Of course the barista had apparently suffered from a gremlin bite, and was trying to serve her while acting like a storybook princess who needed "latte" defined for her.

Jaina still hadn't gotten a drink yet, and was wondering if you could mind trick someone out of a gremlin bite.

"That's . . . an interesting choice."

Duke stared down at the plate his staff had proudly set in front of him, watching the handful of birthday candles melt.

"It's a fish cake!" Bobby said proudly. "Three layers!"

"I see that," Duke said. He poked the top layer with his fork. "An iced fish cake."

"It's tarragon mayo," said Greg. "Ali caught the tilapia himself."

Duke looked up at them. They all beamed back at him.

"Make a wish!" Ali said.

Duke bit back a sigh, and blew out the candles, to the cheers of his whole staff.

Today's specials
Catch of the day!:
Tilapia Fish cakes with tarragon mayo

"So," said Bobby. "You're like, fifty now, right?"

Duke pointed at him. "You're fired."

Luke's was open and OCD free.
