It wasn't the fact that the store was decked out in streamers and balloons that Monday, not the same streamers and balloons meant to give off an aquatic vibe like on Friday, but, instead, more basic, clearly birthday-orientated ones, that surprised Summer. After all, she wouldn't put it past Apu to want to celebrate her birthday, even so far ahead of the actual day, and she would have been a little flattered by it. What surprised Summer about the decor in the store when she came in that day was that there was a banner hanging over the counter that made it clear that it was not for Summer at all.

"Who the fuck is Amy?" she asked, squinting at the banner proudly wishing this Amy a Happy Birthday.

Apu explained to her that he actually didn't know, but he did know it was her birthday, and it was apparently a big deal.

Summer, suspicious about this, immediately went to her phone.

Sure, it was probably some Amy's birthday today; there were infinite possibilities, so therefor there were infinite Amys celebrating their birthday today, but Summer was pretty sure she found what the problem was.

"Apu," she said, turning her phone toward him so he could see, "it's not Amy's Birthday, but the Army's Birthday today."

Apu looked from Summer's phone, to the banner, back to Summer's phone, and promptly facepalmed.

But it was fine. They could just add an R in there totally inconspiciously, throw around a few plastic toy soldiers, and maybe no one would notice.

Furnado Animal Shelter; Monday [06/14].

This had been going amazingly well and smoothly at the shelter that day. She'd had a small lesson with the vet in taking care of a bird who'd injured his wing, there were some supplies to put away, and just some general administrative tasks that she took up because everything was fairly calm and quiet. It was just when she was finished gushing over a file on a new puppy they'd gotten in that she heard it, a break in the relative peacefulness, the sound of two cats growling and hissing at each other somewhere nearby, amping up to a fight.

Sakaki spurned into action, rushing forward to locate the fray-in-action, and called out, "No! Stop! You don't have to do this!"

She rushed forward, eager to halt the cats, their backs arched, their fur standing on end, their fangs bared maliciously toward each other...

...

The good news was, Sakaki had successfully managed to prevent the cats from fighting each other.

The bad (and honestly rather predictable news) was that this was because they'd found a new target instead, and it actually took a surprising amount of time to finally get the cats that had glomped onto her pleading hands to finally let go.

Steve was back on the island after what was possibly the world's longest week.

He flopped down into his chair and waved his hand at the Troopers. "Just take a lap, guys. It's hot outside."

The Trooper Station was open and phoning it in.

There was no arrack tonight. Not as a special, not even as a non-special. Seivarden was sticking to Summer's orders, since that was likely the best thing to do. Instead the sign said:

Tonight's Special:
Gin & Tonic

That should work. Maybe she could even get Amaya to try one if she showed up.

Tino snickered. "So you've figured out that no one wants you fancy space wine."

That didn't deserve an answer.
