Troy had to admit, one of the absolute worst parts of this job had to be...no, not the Annoying Vinyl Hipster...that dude was pretty bad, but dealing with him was just annoying. It didn't carry with it the complete and total existential dread and fear of the unknown (how would that be for a topic in his literature class?) that the Tangled Headphones Monster Probably Lurking in the Basement had. It was a fear he felt all too much whenver he thought he heard a weird sound or a bump or a groaning from the air ducts. Sometimes there was a rattling. Sometimes a slithering, like a snake, and he honestly wasn't sure if it was actually the potential monster in the basement, or just the stereo still on its spooky music bullshit some more.

But...but...!

He did have to admit that, today? This unknown fear was actually a little inspiring. He was really wracking his brain trying to think of what he was going to do for the homecoming dance, and, while Sexy Dracula was always ready in his pocket, he'd done that before, and he wanted to at least try to mix it up a little.

...perhaps he could consider Sexy Tangle Headphones Monster Probably urking in the Basement, actually. It was unique, to be sure, and he could even pull it off shirtless very easy, and all he'd have to do was tangle up some headphones, and he was all set!

Maybe you weren't so bad after all, Tangled Headphones Monster.

Just as long as you stayed in the basement, please.

Groovy Tunes is open!

Ignis had absolutely made it a habit to check the status of the fire extinguishers in the cooking classroom of the community center well before getting started, and today was no exception, since they would be using both the ovens and the stoves this week, gods help them. He wondered why he kept doing this to himself, when they could have just as easily started focusing on things that required no cooking, some nice picnic box lunches sort of things, but, well, even though he wasn't even from this world, it was hard not to get swept up in all the trappings of the season, especially when it came to its culinary inspirations.

"Welcome back," he said, trying his best to keep the dread of expectation out of his cool, otherwise calm voice. "We're almost out of what I've been told is called 'Spooky Season' here on this planet, and so I thought we'd tackle a few hopefully simple recipes for it to add to your repertoires. I was thinking perhaps of looking into making candy, but I feel, for the scope of this class to help you to become more independent in the kitchen and less dependant on the variety of take-out afforded to us on this island, I thought we'd focus elsewhere.

"Namely," he gestured toward the ingredients on his station, which included a pumpkin, but don't worry, that was just for effect; there were plenty of canned pumpkin options ready for them to use, "a pumpkin pie, a pumpkin chili to help chase away these chillier days, and, moving away from the gourd for a bit and into a small indulgence into the fun of the season, we will be....attempting," oh, there was so much emphasis on that word right now, "to make our own caramel to use for caramel apples.

"I will say this now," he added, because that was the part he feared the most, "caramal is deceptive in its simplicity, and requires a lot of a care and attention to detail and temperature. I know this has been a little bit of a...hurdle in this particular class, so I would recommend you all take exceptional care with this part of the assignments. But, with that in mind, let us get started..."

Much of the island was fully decked out for Halloween. This included the bakery which was full of fake spiderwebs, pumpkins, and spooky desserts. Thankfully, unlike at Caritas, none of the decorations in here were prone to making noises at unsuspecting patrons. Stark was grateful for that once he arrived and walked up to the counter to see what was available today.

The jack-o-lantern cookies looked good, as did the spider cookies, the candy corn cookies, the vampire cookies and the mummy cookies. The monster bark had interesting colors. There was also still a truly impressive variety of pumpkin-based desserts to choose from.

Stark ended up with a box of cookies, some meringue bones, and 2 cream puffs that looked like jack-o-lanterns.

He sat down at an empty table with his treats and a coffee and took an experimental nibble of one of the meringue bones.

[Very open for baked goods and alien interaction with the usual disclaimer that I may be attacked by middle schoolers at any moment before 3:30 Eastern but please entertain me]

The store now had a nice, fancy new sign out front with its new name on it (well, not that fancy, but definitely an upgrade from last-minute-LARP-on-a-shoestring like the last shop sign bearing this name). Steph wouldn't lie, she was pretty relieved to see that the signmaker had done justice to her drawing of a magpie with a d20 in its beak, becaues she'd worked hard on that, dammit.

She spent a good 15 minutes after opening just hanging out on the sidewalk to take pictures of the sign from different angles (and the whole storefront, and the surrounding area) to send to Ethan, Ryan, and Alex. Come on, she had to.

Inside the store, the front area was shaping up nicely after days of hard work and Steph was hoping to be done with it today. The comics room was tidied up and reorganized with new labels on the shelves, the racks of dice and tabletop minis were finally arranged along the back wall the way she wanted them, cards were in the display behind the counter along with the fancy expensive dice. All that was really left was to put together the Game Picks of the Month table she had planned, which was... basically going to be a bunch of games designed around a theme she was going to pick at random every month by rolling dice. Naturally.

She still had the back lounge and upstairs gaming area left to do, but all of that could wait until tomorrow. Maybe. Depending on how much time she had left between finishing the sales area and quitting time.

The Magpie Emporium was open, and whenever Steph wasn't working on the Picks of the Month, which according to the dice had "codes" for a theme, she was busy sketching out ideas for the walls upstairs.

Or helping people who came in, of course. She'd be happy to do that.

[OOC: Open, of course! Feel free to poke me for a response, since I have just discovered my notifications have been disappearing into the ether, which... sorry about that?]

Goose had gotten the money to replace his apartment's furniture, so Jon had to make sure that got delivered properly, and this weekend was apparently Homecoming, so Jon supposed the place ought to look as good as possible.

And he wasn't above a couple small skeletons in the yard, although he drew the line at any spiders or webs.

The board by his flat announced that he was in if anybody needed him, or they might catch him around the place.

"No," Duke said.

"Awww, c'mon." Bobby clutched the yellow Gordon's box to his chest. "It's Halloween! It's a classic!"

"One: it's October 28. Two: I don't care what day it is, we don't serve frozen fish sticks in my diner. You want to do Halloween fish dishes, you use fresh fish."

"But you haven't caught any with fingers!"

Duke just stared at him for a long moment, then slowly shook his head and walked away.

Well, it was almost Halloween, so Eric was dressed up as a vampire: leather pants, black sleeveless shirt, leather jacket, fangs.

Why, yes it was what he wore all the time. Yes, he did this every year. Yes, he still found it hilarious.

Tiny maybe not so much, which was why there were Bloody Marys on special.

The Devil's Nest was open! Mwahaha, etc.

Ya know, Margo had spent some time going back and forth on whether she felt whimsical enough to get some Halloween shit in here. Maybe a few pumpkins, put up a skeleton as a warning for people who didn’t invest in skin care, that kinda thing.

And then it was Thursday, and she still hadn’t done anything. Fuck it. She put a bunch of the Halloween-y bathbombs out in the window and around the counter, lit some scented candles from a brand called SPOOK! and called it good.

She wasn’t exactly made for retail.

Liz had finally sorted out her social media accounts since she wanted to start trying to set up more of her own individual photography work and see if people would be interested in hiring her as a photographer and she had also sorted out the Photo Huts social media accounts as well. She did leave a note with the usernames and passwords for Prompto in case he also wanted to help manage the Photo Huts various accounts that she had set up since she figured that he would most likely be more familiar with current social media trends then she was.

When that was done she turned her attention back to her phone and opened up instagram, which she had discovered in the process of downloading the different social medias apps and was already obsessed with it. She had also gone with “flamesburning1975”for her username because despite everything she still liked going with a fire theme and she felt it fit.

She had also discovered #catsofinstagram and it was now one of her new favourite hashtags and there were a few photos of Rain that had been added to it in the last day or so that she’d had her instagram account, honestly Rain was probably going to end up with her own instagram account the way it was going. There were also some various different shots of the Photo Hut’s Halloween decorations.

Yes Liz was going to be someone who instagrammed everything.
