The stereo was definitely pumping out some seriously up-beat and bouncy tunes that day, which was fine, Troy supposed it couldn't be helped, that stereo deifnitely had a mind of its own and he could survive dealing with it just fine, he definitely was not belting out that Aly & AJ song whenever it showed up in the loop complete with some sweet moves as he went about his work around the store.

Definitely not.

How dare you.

Except that he totally was, but he was making sure to keep an eye on the door so that he could stop and pretend like it never happened when anyone came into the store that day, but it didn't take long before he was singing it under his breath and bopping his head along to it all over again.

Groovy Tunes is open!

[[ Groovy Tunes posts are now entirely based on whatever song from work gets stuck in my head, apparently ]]

Dwight had woken up that morning as he had nearly every morning for over a month- with a fur ball laying on his chest licking his face until he woke up. At least Snoopy's puppy breath wasn't as bad as some....

After taking care of the normal morning stuff around the apartment, Dwight headed downstairs to the shop, Snoopy right on his heels. Soon he was settling in to do a little work. There was no forge in his plans today for a change. He was sticking around the shop and working on a little side project he had going on.

Thankfully, he had enough duplicates of the basic hand tools that he needed still at the shop, which was a good thing because he couldn't really work on this at the forge. Not that there was anything overly special about what he was working on. Of course not...

Guess who's back, back again?

That's right, folks, a mere two weeks after he was convinced that he was in fact leaving Fandom to go back home to Chicago, one William Halstead was back, and one of the first places he'd headed was the bakery.

To be fair, it had been several months from Will's perspective, not just two weeks, so he had actually been gone a significant amount of time, really. And there were some not-insignificant things that were accompanying his return: one, the adorable dog currently tied up just outside the bakery. And two... the fact that he looked like he'd been hit by a car.

(Because he absolutely had.)

But never mind that; he was back and he had a heart-shaped doughnut and a Wordle to figure out. Going back to 2019 had broken his winning streak, so now he had to start all over again.

The Perk- Thursday

Billy was not having the best day. Really, the past week had been pretty much a crap fest. Out of the past four nights, three had been filled with nightmares every time he tried to sleep. Every night he found himself back in Racoon City, trapped in the mansion again. Sometimes it was a different part of the mansion... But every nightmare ended the same. With the zombies. And every time he woke up in a cold sweat, heart near pounding out of his chest, and a sickening feeling in the pit of his stomach.

After three nights of it, Billy decided it was better to just not sleep at all. The nightmares couldn't last forever. They would eventually stop. Or at least they wouldn't be as bad. He had gone through this before. He had dealt with the flashbacks and nightmares once before. He could do it again.... hopefully... he was already pushing nearly 48 hours without sleep at this point. And he was sure he was starting to look about as great as he felt.

So there he was, situated in the corner of The Perk, his third extra large cup of coffee with espresso shot in front of him, the barista possibly giving him concerned glances as she worked behind the counter.

There were three minute dates, a party Laszlo would probably attend we'll see, lol, and Valentine's Day coming.

But all of these events paled in comparison when Laszlo heard about this Sunday's event.

"The Owl?" he asked Tino, downright reverent. "It will be here? What of its egg?"

Evidently the Superb Owl and its egg would be in Los Angeles, which meant that Laszlo would simply have to celebrate it at a distance.

Someday, though. Someday he'd meet that owl.

Laszlo, in case you were wondering, could not tell you the difference between an ale and a lager. Just to get that out there.

Annie could have totally called in, probably, post-space spa. But it seemed like a waste to spend all day relaxing and then head home to relax more, so work it would be.

Besides, she had radiant hair and skin to show off, and more importantly, literally sparkling nails to show Tiny.

Guess who didn't care? Guess who didn't even look at her nails?

Whatever.

Steph had all kinds of plans for things to do around the store today, like she always did: a couple of new displays, a substantial expansion to the Steph Picks section, semi-sarcastic Valentine's Day themed selections, a spotlight on indie creators (because she might not work in a record store any more but she had to maintain a commitment to indie anyway), and that was just for starters, but...

First she was going to have to put away what seemed like half the contents of the games library, because every single table upstairs -- despite having been cleared off before closing last night -- was covered in game boards and cards and dice. The hell of it was that all the games had clearly been played to at least some extent, but none of them had been mixed up, nothing was torn or broken, and if it did end up taking a significant portion of her day it was a pretty easy cleanup job, all things considered.

As for who was behind it? Well, Steph had her suspicions, and if it was in fact the gremlins, then... well, she'd let them play for free if it kept them happy and, you know, hopefully not biting her. Or the clientele. But mostly her.

You know the only thing that could stop Margo's raging happy axe fever? A party.

Didn't hurt that it was a party thrown by a hot chick in a sex store. So yeah, she was busy prepping, trying to come up with some flashy party spells and scoping out the merchandise for something she could use.

What? Smoke and mirrors were a big part of magic. Why bespell something when a scented candle would do? She lit the candle with a gesture of her hand and frowned thoughtfully. "Maybe I can tweak the scent just a little bit..."

... she was still here for you. Allegedly.

When the boys arrived at the community center today, they'd find that Yang had made an obstacle course, modeled (vaguely) after rooftops and walls, about twenty feet off the ground, foam mats all over the floor.

"Parkoooooooooour!!!" Yang yelled, pumping her fist. "It's warmer and mostly dry, so we're going free-running around Fandom! In a bit! First, I want you to get a feel for it!"

"When lost or being pursued in a city, sticking to the streets is the equivalent of painting a target on your back," she said bluntly. "Especially if you aren't local; a stranger will stick out like nothing else, and sometimes an alternative view of your surroundings can be suuuuuuuper helpful."

"Parkour is the concept of moving from one point to another as smoothly, efficiently and quickly as possible, using the abilities of the human body. It is meant to help one overcome obstacles, which can be anything in the surrounding environment — from branches and rocks to rails and concrete walls — and is practiced in both rural and urban areas, though personally I think urban is more fun. Parkour practitioners are often referred to as traceurs. Why? I don't know, look it up."

"Now, parkour is an activity that is often categorized as an extreme sport; however, parkour has no set of rules." Fear the unholy gleam in Yang's eyes, boys. Fear it. "Most experienced traceurs think of parkour as a discipline closer to martial arts. It is often said that 'the physical aspect of parkour is getting over all the obstacles in your path as you would in an emergency. You want to move in such a way, with any movement, as to help you gain the most ground on someone or something, whether escaping from it or chasing toward it.'"

"The primary characteristic of parkour is efficiency. Practitioners move not only as rapidly as they can, but also in the most direct and efficient way possible. This characteristic distinguishes it from the similar practice of free-running, which places more emphasis on freedom of movement and creativity. Efficiency also involves avoiding injuries, both short and long term, part of why parkour's unofficial motto is 'être et durer,' which means 'to be and to last.' Those who are skilled at this activity normally have an extremely keen spatial awareness."

"So, today, we're going to start small, with the basic movements, since I don't know how much experience people have with this, and then we'll head outside and tear around Fandom."

Liz noticed that there were quite a few boxes that had arrived when she came downstairs to open up the store for her shift that day so most of her morning was being spent putting away the new stock that had arrived.

Once she had finished that and some general tidying up as well, she returned to her computer so that she could finish completing some general admin tasks that she had to work on.
