The nice thing about working an evening job with a gimmick that required things to just sort of sit and chill after the initial combining of ingredients was that Summer had absolutely noooo problem snagging a nap before her shift. In fact, she probably got better sleep than she would have otherwise. Having already been woken up early, she used that time after the drill to already get going on the shots, and then back to sleep, so she was bright-eyes and ready to go by the time she made it to the bar.

It meant she'd wound up not making it down to shenanigans, either to participate or see who got free shots tonight, but she supposed she'd just have to take people's words for it this time around.

It was almost impressive, really, how quickly Apu was able to turn all the red, white, and blue decorations exploding through the store on Monday into rainbow-themed decorations exploding through the store by Wednesday. Shunsui certainly didn't mind--decorations rarely got in the way of napping, after all, of which he planned to do copious amounts of that day, and that had nothing to do with the kraken drill, that had been his agenda for his day regardless--but it did seem to spark a mild debate as to whether or not they were actually legally obligated as a business to decorate like this now that it was June 1st. Shunsui was pretty sure that wasn't true, at all, but also Apu seemed to just know more about this sort of thing in general, so who knew?

Well, they both figured Summer might know, but she was not answering either of their texts right now.

(This was also pretty par for the course, as well).

Irene was absolutely knackered, but she didn't much look it. That's what investing a small fortune in facial skincare got you!

Well. She mostly didn't look it. She'd gotten dressed in one of those lovely sheath dresses she wore all summer, and done her hair and her makeup and had had two strong cups of tea upstairs before realizing that her under-eyes looked a touch rough.

And then had forgotten about the tiny little eye masks she'd applied to her under-eye bags before wandering downstairs.

So, she'd probably eventually notice, but for now Irene was posted up behind the counter at Dite's, nursing more tea, working on the books, and modeling a pair of half-moon-shaped under-eye patches.

In the middle of the night, the sirens went off.

Everyplace that had a siren unless it was handwavily broken in case a player doesn't want to get involved exploded into a cacophony of sound. It rang shrill, and loud, and it was nearly impossible to escape.

It rang again, louder.

And again.

And then the PA system kicked in."HELLO ISLAND. KRAKEN! KRAKEN! KRAKEN! PLEASE GO TO TOWN CENTER AT THE CROSS OF BLACK SWAN DRIVE AND UNICORN STREET, AWAY FROM THE SHORES, AND TIE YOURSELF TO THE NEAREST AVAILABLE OBJECT."

It repeated itself another handful of times. And then the whole thing started all over again.

At the center of Black Swan Drive and Unicorn Street, a variety of ropes and scarves and some handcuffs had been left for those who didn't bring their own.

Well. That was new.

Well, today was proving to be an absolute bust on getting anything at all accomplished. Mostly because Danny was spending half of it, fielding phone calls, assuring people that no, it was just a drill this morning.

"No, ma'am, there was no kraken," he all but sighed. "No, ma'am."

This was just a bad day to work.

And on top of that, he was looking at some very strange text messages from Kamekona, asking him to make sure Steve wasn't too upset that he couldn't get hula dancers out to Maryland for the party this weekend. Because it wouldn't be a competition with Steve if it wasn't wildly over the top.

Right. So Steph had meant to have the store all decorated for the month yesterday, but in between the kraken drill and then the Wednesday shenanigans she'd been pretty much useless for doing much besides getting her box of Pride decorations from her place to the store.

So she was in early this morning and putting everything up. Her sparkly rainbow Pride sign went atop the center shelf in the comics section, where she'd put together a display of comics of various genres featuring queer characters; the lesbian pride flag that she usually kept hanging over her drums was up on the office door. A small collection of hand-lettered parade signs stood beside the dice displays, a dish of pins and buttons was up beside the register with a "TAKE ONE" sign beside it, and right square in the center of the front display window where it couldn't possibly be missed was a very large rainbow flag.

There were other decorations too, now: she'd spent a good chunk of time over the past few weeks painting entire miniature adventuring parties and equipping them with tiny signs and flags, and now there was a whole miniature Pride parade marching all along the length of one of the board game shelves in the center of the store's front room. There was a special "Spotlight on LGBTQIA+ Creators" display of games and sourcebooks, and of course the rack of D&D themed pride and pronoun pins. There would probably be even more added as the month went on and inspiration struck her.

If anyone needed Steph today, she'd be up at the register or in the office with her laptop and a couple dozen open browser tabs, doing research and scribbling away feverishly in a notebook. For Reasons.

[OOC: I am a normal amount emotional about the Pride memories part of LiS:TC Wavelengths. And the whole June section of it, really. Which I had to screenshot extensively for reference, naturally. Open!]
